PHP upgrade today

hi fellow VJs,

came back from vacation yesterday and have decided to upgrade PHP from 4.2.2 to 4.3.4 for several reasons (major one is GD 2.0 library with GIF support, that i need for ezCommunity). i'm going to use a pre-built package for the particular software this server is running on, so it should hopefully be quite easy. however if there are problems this website may be down a moment. i'm doing backups of the databases at the moment, just in case...

Oh dear, I did not realise you were back ex, so when I couldnt get to the forum I rebooted the server. I hope I havent messed anything up for you :(

No mess done I think. :) The second reboot seems to have fixed the problems I had. Looks like there was some database problems just a few minutes ago though... I ended up upgrading the whole server software (ensim), which also included an upgrade of PHP to 4.3.3. Will keep on monitoring the situation.

just installed PHP Accelerator (http://www.php-accelerator.co.uk/) also. ezCommunity pages take twice less time to load and i'm noticing quite a change even on these forums (like, lightning fast). isn't life beautiful? :)

Everything seems to be loading zippy. There had been some slow-downs over the past 2 weeks I've noticed (especially on certain threads that contain longer rants), but I don't know when it's source and when it's my local service....

Anyway, after a brief interruption this morning all is clear!
