I saw a thread posted by a guy looking for a VJ, and it got me thinking that it might be worth having a seperate forum for promoters who are looking for a VJ to find one.
By closing threads after the night has passed the forum could be kept up to date, and could be a useful resource for both VJs and promoters alike.

Not sure whether this could be expanded to a more general forum for non-VJs to ask questions about VJing?

Hmm there has been only one promoter here for now, and the forum has been running for almost one year (counting the reboot), maybe making a whole forum dedicated to this is a bit too early? While I welcome promoters, I'm not sure personally how many of them will take time to register at VJC just to post a request. Something more automated could be better but then again, is this site mainly for VJs promotion or for communication between VJs? (and that's a real question because I don't know where this site will be going...)

Edit: a more general forum to ask questions/requests to VJs seems quite interesting though, maybe a bit too early too but I'll keep that in mind.

The only reason I suggested it as a seperate forum was so that it wouldn't get confused with any other threads.

In the end however, it does depend what direction you want the forum to take.

Having promoted in the past (not extensively), the only reason I was able to put visuals on at my two events was because I knew Syzygy and a guy called Stef who has since stopped to concentrate on music. Having said that, I didn't look for a VJ site on the internet, and not sure any other promoter would, unless informed to. It could be useful if it became known to people.

Couldn't the "Meeting Point" be "reworded" to include promoters requests/needs?

Yeah that's what I meant by "something more automated"... However I wonder if it wouldn't be better to just have some sister sites for promoters with VJ profiles and some kind of form for promoters. It would be integrated with VJCentral so that VJs don't have to submit their profiles twice. Right now most of the data on the VJC profiles are not really useful for promoters.

But do people really want to send promoters here to check the whole competition?

My original idea was so that promoters that did not know a VJ would be able to find one. Once the ball got rolling it might not need us to point promoters to it.

But getting the ball rolling might come up against this problem...
perhaps if VJs are offered gigs they cannot do they should be posted somewhere here. (I doubt this happens very often though)

How about a new forum called "Questions for VJs" for punters, promoters, media, developers, etc, where registration would not be required to post? (that way we don't fill the database with non-VJs who only post once). Would that fit with your original idea PilotX? Maybe "Question for VJs" isn't the best title hmm... "Requests for VJs", "Talk with VJs"?? :p

Well, no feedback so I guess no one had a problem with the creation of such a forum. It's done now, will move related threads on this new forum over time.

Sorry Exhale, didn't notice your first post. Yes that forum is exactly what I had in mind. Thanks.
