I'll get back to you at this as soon as possible, a friend of us built a steadycam thingy for our small PCR-9 miniDv camera and it worked a treat.

Definitly worth to go thru and have a look at the forum. On the site you find a lot of different approaches to that theme. Also dolly and cranes. Its a great resource for DIY projects to get smooth shootings.
On the Cafepress website you can buy some books about DIY projects.
