Greetings, just a very quick post regarding the leagality of flyering around a town (Leicester) or anywhere for that matter.

We have been running our fortnightly night now since March, and mainly have relied on word of mouth to get ourselves a nice friendly crowd of around 150 people. Now its time to charge for the event and have 10k of flyers. (?125 - Q-biq 02380 336449 and ask for Steve) ...

Ideas so far have included covering BT phoneboxes, usual bars / universities but would appreaciate more ideas on posters / or flyposting ... I'd love to be able to avoid any clean up fees !

Also, any alternative ideas are as ever always welcome !

Cheers.

Tony.

goto the same venue you hold the night, and stand outside on different nights where there may be a similar crowd you are trying to nab! they already know where the place is and aren't afraid to go there :)

you can leave flyers on car windows outside other cool club nights , like they just got ticketed to attend your night . or go shopping down town and just hand them out with a personal invite to kids that look cool , and give them the "hay you should come to our night you look like you'd really enjoy it ." you could hit the notice boards in the local Colleges or Universities there just asking for good flyers .

are you from Leicester ? that's cool i was born in a little town not far from there called Lutterworth , have you heard of it ? after going to the last AVIT in Brighten we did the "England in 5 days" thing and made a stop there ( in Leicester ) and checked out the open market in the city center . it was a trip , as it had been a nearly twenty five years since i'd last been there . i bought a cool belt , and checked out that super old court yard by the even older church that was by the market . Vancouvers is barely 100 year old , and it a full on city , so it's very different to where i ended up . anyway good to meet you and if your not from Leicester just ignore that last rant . :yep:

I _really_ hope Tom doesn't read this thread - nothing makes him angry like flyers under his windscreen wipers...

Seriously, handing flyers to people in person with a smile and some words about the night if people are interested is much more effective than pissing people off with flyers on their cars.

If you going for flyposters, make sure to check whether someone runs the flyposter business in your area - check with other promoters to see who they go to for theirs. Don't want to get on the worng side of the local flyposter gang...

for the party that's been running for 3 yrs, we *ONLY* flyer hot women... not because we're dogs... okay we are, but that's not why... its easy to throw a sausage party, but if you flyer in tanning salons, party gear/clothing stores etc you reach a better market, they will bring their friends, and for every hot gal, there will be two dumb drool guys behind them... anyway, it works here.

Leaving flyers at selected places related somehow to the type of event you go to seems to be the best choice for me.

I do shows with bands, so we always put flyers by the door and ask to put up posters in record store windows. Also pass out flyers after shows of like minded artists.

Cheers for the advice, i'm getting a little more bold with the flyering thing since last fridays gig, went well, low turn out but an absolutly superb atmosphere !!! I now look forwards to each and every one !!! anyway ...

[bluntfaktory] I'm not from Leicester, but I know of Lutterworth, I imagine a return trip to Leics did make you appreaciate home heh. theres a friendly enough crowd here and the drink isnt too expensive.

Tanning salons are a seriously good idea, nothing better than lotsa eye candy for the eye candy ?! if that made any sense at all.

2 weeks to go ... just hope the numbers increase !!!

Thanks once again !

Peace

I personally like leaving flyers/stickers on the walls and doors of other club/bar bathrooms...
Everybody goes there sooner or later!
And I personally enjoy something to read in the bathroom!

i know this is an old thread but a bit of advice toxic.

Im a promoter in Leicester, and it should be usful for you to know that the leicester council are currently enforcing a local bylaw against fly postering, if the council can prove it, they will fine you ?1000 per poster left up over 24hours of them giving you notice.

Thought id give you the heads up.
what night do yo run?

In Birmingham, the council have started putting "CANCELLED" strips over posters attached to lampposts - seems they have a new strategy afoot.

Amusingly, if you look at the strips up close they say:

[in tiny letters] Pursuant to Act x, this poster has been

CANCELLED

Presumably to avoid any claims that they are lying about the event being cancelled.

Must be a lot more fun for the council workers going round sticking those up than pulling posters down...

Same here in Leicester, thought about sending council tax form back with a big "CANCELLED" across it...
