I would also like to learn more about how much the average VJ charges.

poll is anonymous and not representative ;)

Since most VJs I know use a sliding scale from $0 with friends and VJ-oriented nights, to $2000 and more for sponsored gigs or content creation, and almost any price for small weekly nights.... How does this "average" out?

I think you should rebuild the poll and allow multiple answers.

...i added the 'rates per punter' choices for vjs who vary their pricing because they e.g. play venues of varying sizes. i didn't want to allow multiple choices as that would completely water out the results of this poll: without multiple choices at least everyone participating in the poll has the exact same amount of influence on its results.
...
if you do, say 50% of your gigs for free and the other 50% for 2000$ then that averages out to 1000$ per gig. if you do 80% of your gigs for 4000$ and 20% for nothing then that averages out to 3200$. ...etc.
...
just vote for the amount you 'feel comfortable' with & please don't take this poll too seriously. ;)

How much do I charge, or how much do I actually get payed?

I've been thinking about putting a yardwork clause in for dodgy promoters.

"If agreed upon rate is not met at close of show, remainder of funds will be repaid at $10 per hour doing yardwork and other household chores."
Unfortunately, the ones that do useful things are never the ones that duck out on the bill, its always the ones that promote for lack of other marketable skills that come up short.
