Hi there,
I'm heading the development of a dedicated VJ dept. for Turnkey (major music tech retailer in London). I'm looking for opinions on what kind of kit some working and budding VJ's think we should stock.
Please give me your ideas. After all you maybe my customers later best to find out what you want.

I would recomend you stock a selection of the main players equipment. Edirol, Pioneer and Panasonic. As with your sound sie of things (i know your store far to well ;) ) a nice demo area would be good. Also, you have the midi knowledge, but i would recomend you train your staff to fully understand video siganls and their requirements. Also the usual variety of cables would be good. You could also consider retailing off-the-shelf boxed software and vj pc systems, much like you have for audio.
Hoep this helps. I have been involved both hire and retail of av, audio, video and lighting equipment in the past so if you wanna have a more in depth chat, email me on visuals@rho-d.co.uk

off the top of my head:
video mixers, cameras, midi-keyboards (or other controllers), specific laptop/shuttle/pc solutions for vjs, small (portable) dvd players/recorders, small (portable) lcd/conventional preview monitors, vj software, computer hardware for vjs (from external harddrives to RAM to video cards), video fx units, beamers, rigging utensils (esp. for beamers), cables, flightcases(!), content dvds, sample dvds, video matrices.

Hi all,
Wow I'm impressed quite a few replies so quickly and a few familiar with Turnkey already. The response has been great. I'll be taking on your suggestions and banging on at my bosses to get the gear.
For those that hope we'll have our staff well trained in video equipment etc. I'll tell you now the only person that seems to be interested in this is me (boo hoo). But that's fine it means I can develop the department much more to my liking and be able to eventually choose my own staff (kinda sorta).
I'm also trying to organise an official launch. getting decent demo facilities is gonna be difficult (we're loosing space rapidly) but if I have the customer base to use as leverage that should come, we could probably marry it up with the DJ dept.
Anyway thanks again for all the keen replies.

If you stocked cheap V4's and had a special discount for VJC members I think your shop would do very well...very well indeed :D
Honest gov ;) :yep:
