View Full Version : Optimal video loop length?

I'm in the process of recording a lot of video loops for my content archive, and I had a quick question.

What is a good file length for beat matched video loops? I know that no one length will work for matching to all songs, but I'm sure there is a common beat that most house music follows. (something like 62 BPM?) I can adjust the playback speed later to match to specific songs, but I just want a good loop length to start with.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

i tr ans keep my basic image sequence loops to 8, 12 or 16 single images with each image displayed for 1sec.

so i guess i'm working with loops at 8 12 or 16 secs.
oh 4 secs is also a common timeframe because it 100 frames at pal with 25/fps, and software like 3dsmax starts with a default timline of 100 (well actually 101 frames but yeah)

but thats only for my very basic image seq loops,
i dont really have a pre-defined or preferred length for longer loops.

The BPM don't matter as you can, in most programs, control the speed at which the clip plays.

Therefore take a common off-the-mill house loop, and make your video loop the same length as this audio loop.

You'll have to play with the clip speed while performing but it should be easy and it would look great.

Yeah, originally I just wanted to come up with an average length so the adjustments on whole sets of videos would be the same... then I could bind all clips to the same speed slider.

In the long run, having a single length would not have worked for me any way. Most of the clips I am creating have a single visual beat or series of visual beats, so no two clips end up being the same length.

Thanks fro the help.

If you like to use bar length clips then make your loops to the bar length for the slowest BPM that you want to play to. Speeding clips up is no problem but slowing clips down results in jerky motion.

There are loads of sites that list BPMs for different styles of electronic music.
