hahahaha A quote from my favourite hiphop head EL-P is in order here .

"Wish I could get paid for my rhyme HA : in Bizarre World where co-flow is a pop-sensation."

do it for the love or expand your activities that's all I can say about the matter

of course!

all i'm saying is, that if the club can pay the djs why shouldn't it pay the vj? i don't think getting as much as a dj is asking too much. after all the vj's work usually begins with setting up before the party started, then it's mixing visuals for 6 to 10 hours straight, & then packing everything together again (while dj's usually play 1 to 3 hour sets !). most vjs provide the equipment they use themselves & produce @ least part of their footage on their own.
assuming the club booked 4 djs, 1 mc & a vj asking for one sixth (if all get paid equally) of the overall budget for djs, mcs & vjs shouldn't be appear too much for the promoter either. in other words: i think a promoter should value the vj's work at least as much as to prefer having one dj less on the lineup to not having a vj. getting as much as a dj to me isn't primarily about money but about getting a minimum of recognition for my work!
...
does doing something for the love imply you should only do it for free?

no course not , but think: if you can throw party you gonna need music, drinks as bear necessity after that lighting and vj's , we are already secundair :ergo you'll get secundary pay.

if (as in holland now) and only if the competition is murder among organisers can the love become an enterprise because now the party's have to offer more and distinguish themselfs. the vj scene can only prosper when the clubscene will be at his peak and competition will start. at that point we have to proof that we can do more than throw a $##!!!#! pillman on the projectors (sorry had a early 90's backflash from holland, i'll explain one day)

besides , you can use your skills in other areas as well, we are starting to do that as well. love is good (promote yourself via vjing), but eating to(use that fame to get freelance jobs.) :)

hahaha YEZZ!! exactly!! credit where credit is do though 00-kaap and DEPT and Kwaaitaal rock and still do now back during the golden vj era in amsterdam.

there the reason I started out , and micha just...well let's just say whenever the guy's on tv. I turn it off and jup and work with after Effects some more ;)

does bring a point : I remember that the above vj's mentioned got booked like mad and could actually live on there work , they also displayed it in gallery's and/or worked in the media industry to. which proofs to me you have to do more than just vj.

Yep you're right on that one to prime!

But you have you're gigs at the Xcess parties if i'm correct.
Doesn't Maurice pays you enough money for you're preformances.

Maybe you should introduce him to this forum so he understand
us guys and why we need to get paid more....or shall I do it....
whenever I see him....:D

Try to do my best to keep alphen on the map.....:D

And I know that organizers cut on the light and visual budget first....to bad I think....but as long as the dj is of higher importance, it will be like this....

yeh  but hey it can go differently ! check out the offcorso in rotterdam and the patronaat in harlem: there are places where visuals get more exposure hell in the city of rotterdam they beam on the streets.

it could get better : again more competition being the key word here.

MatFx

True! I think my aim is also on Rotterdam.
There's actualy someone who wants some demo material of me
to drop in Now&Wow, cause he has some connection there...

errr...guys you know there's a chat room here? :)

In my biased opinion, CUT THE LAMPYs, all you need are projections and lasers....oh, and why does the laser guy get to goto sleep for the last few hours of the night?

charlielangridge

OI!! Lampys have their place! All things are good in moderation!

Unless of course you have the new Amptown moving head projectors! At that point i will bow out completely as a lampy and stick to the VJing!

man I will never forget it as long as I live : here I am kiddy design student playing with 3d packages. we went to a exhibition of micha and there He was , glimmering with the standard materials of softimage and being a loop of 3 seconds flat... AAARGH

Pure torment when your design "teacher" then says: AH amazing isn't this the best thing you've seen ?? still wake up sweating when I dream about it at night....help me

Primebase3

WHAT?!?!? man , that's just plain sad .... problably still making buckets with his 00.3 minute long rendering. Hey a good Idea for the merchandise section of vjc/avit!! a " I hate pillman" shirt !!! who's up for it. :D

No but serious: This menace must be stopped, he lost his prestigious spot on the " 50 most powerful people in the dutch dance-industry" and got replaced by Vision Impossible who totally rock by the way. but he is a smudge in the vj history of holland (I want to apologise to everyone worldwide)

what about everywhere else in the world though : are there more micha's out there , or heroes like 00-Kaap here??
