I wrote this for some of the artists performing at AVIT.
Thought it might be useful for anyone coming from out of town.

Transit
Riding Bart subway from SFO airport to Powell st. Station. (The station is 1 block from the hotel). You can find fares and times online.

For those who want to ride the Bart to Dimension 7 studio take the bart or Muni service to the Embarcadero station.

Weather in San Francisco
San Francisco weather can change very quickly. 1 section of the city maybe windy and foggy while 2 miles away it?s warm and sunny.
Always bring a light jacket with you. 90% of the time it gets chilly in the early evening.
I don?t recommend shorts or short skirts for the evening.
San Francisco has some beautiful beaches BUT, they aren't the Bay Watch beaches you see on TV. (However, you can stroll nude)
The water on the northern coast of San Francisco is very cold. It hurts to be in the water longer than 30 sec.
Often we have beautiful beach days in June. However, this year we haven?t had a nice beach day in a few weeks.
Shopping, Eating and Drinking.
The Metropolis Hotel is very close to Union Sq. a famous shopping district of San Francisco. There are other great shopping areas if you jump on the bart or muni lines.
Haight St. and Ashbury district,
16th and Valencia St. and
Lower Haight St.
There are lots of really good and very cheap Indian restaurants in the Tenderloin. (2 blocks from the Metropolis hotel).
Don?t mind the crack heads, just keep to yourself and no one will bother you. San Francisco is generally a safe city to travel in. Personally, I have never had any issues walking through the worse parts of the city.
Saturday?s events at Studio Z are in a club district. Lots of bars and clubs around the block. Please help us promote Saturday and through out the weekend.
Within walking distance of the venue are a few cafes and restaurants and a really good health food store called Rainbow.
Parking in SF
If you are planning to rent a car or drive to SF. Please pay attention to parking signs.
Parking is a real problem in San Francisco. Friday daytime at Dimension 7 Studio will have very limited parking. All parking on the street is meters and the parking lots average $15.00 a day. I suggest taking the bart or muni trains.
Saturday daytime at StudioZ is either meters or 1 hour parking. There is free all day parking 3 blocks away behind the Best Buy store. (Do not park in Best Buy lot.. they will tow).
Saturday night. Parking is free on the street after 6:00PM. Since this is a club district it is very hard to find parking after 8:00 PM.
PLEASE. NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING VISABLE IN YOUR CAR?IT WILL GET BROKEN INTO. (even clothing will get stolen) If you place it in the trunk, do it before you reach your destination.
We will have a van carrying people and gear back and forth to the hotel and Dimension 7 but we will not be able to transport everyone all the time.
Cab rides from either the hotel or Dimension 7 are under $10.00.
PLEASE BRING ID TO ENTER STUDIOZ EVEN DURING THE DAYTIME TRADESHOW. NO ONE WILL BE ALLOW WITHOUT ID 21+ including artists.
Saturday night performers will have access to the VIP room where all gear can be safely stored. NEVER LEAVE IT IN YOUR CAR. You will be required to show a pass to get in.
Due to tight restrictions at Cellspace (Lightrhythm Party) there are no guest list passes for AVIT artists. However, you can buy discounted tickets at Thursday AVIT Theatre and Friday AVIT Social.
