Just had this sent to me, thought a few people might be interested.

Waiting ? Submission Guidelines

Although waiting is a necessary and sometimes frustrating task for surgery users, through this pilot project, moving image work will be brought into the waiting area. It is hoped that there will be work from both surgery users and workers, as well as from interested artists. The project is designed to support The NHS Plan (1999) which emphasizes the need to centre any aspect of provision on all the people who either use or work in the service.

Background information:

When people use a surgery they experience a variety of emotions, for some, the visit to the GP or nurse will be well-known and routine, but for others, it is an unfamiliar and stressful experience. Whatever their knowledge of the situation, some may be anxious concerning the physical or mental well being of either themselves or someone they care for. We want to make the occasion less of an ordeal and provide a more relaxed and enriching experience by using visual stimulus that is accessible to an extremely broad audience, from young children to the very elderly.

When submitting work some points to remember are:

?Respect for the human condition is at the heart of this project and work needs to be positive in nature. In this situation, viewers should not feel embarrassed, uneasy or offended by the content of the works but rather inquisitive, interested and diverted.

?There should be no strong narrative content since patients may not see the whole piece

?There will be people with a broad range of illnesses and which may affect their ability to engage with work, e.g. bland, low contrast, colourless pieces would have little or no impact on those with impaired vision, reliance on sound as an integral part of the piece would exclude those with hearing difficulties, strobe lighting might provoke a seizure etc.

?Works that are overtly political, religious, violent, or sexual in nature, or that contain nudity, are not acceptable

?There is no particular theme for work submitted
