I am currently looking to buy a midi controller but I have no experience in these matters. I have read the reviews on VJCentral but no one has reviewed the controller I am looking at buying. The controller in question is the Kenton Control Freak Live

Check it out at http://www.kenton.co.uk
Will this be any good for VJing with? Kenton make other models with sliders rather than knobs, is this better for VJing?
Any advice you can give me will be much appreciated.
Cheers

Looks good to me :)
Really any hardware like that will work fine for VJ's as long as you use suitable software, its mostly down to personal preference with the layout of the controllers etc.
I got a controller with knobs first, then I wanted one with sliders too so I could compare. My honest conclusion is it depends which parameters you are tweaking as to whether knobs or sliders are better, eg scratching video feels better for me with a slider, but it still works fine with knobs.
What software will you be using?

Yeah personally I like sliders more, however I think a nice mix of the 2 is the way to go.

Don`t buy the Doepfer Pocketcontrol if you want to make fast moves with your knobs. They are so close together only a child can do fast moves without affecting the knobs around.....

their bitstream pro unit looks seriously wicked. knobs, sliders and buttons and fully programmable.
my one arrives next week and then Oct 19 I have my first ever gig. At least its my own production company so i can get fired except by myself.

Well, a lot of cross posting regarding MIDI controllers, too many threads talking redundantly about the same shit...
Best to check first along the previous threads before you start a new one or maybe you Editors/Moderators sorting a little bit this mess to built a real and helpful knowledgeDB about the topic.
BTW I?m not a fan of any MIDI controller at all, but the WaveIdea BitstreamPro seems very interesting by its programmable nature... Hmmmm!
Pity it have only MIDI In/Out connectors to communicate with the outside world :(
Just a single full supported USB 2.0 specs port could make this kettle unbeatable.:yep:
