FingaMIDI is a replacement trackpad driver for the G4 PowerBook

That site is extremely slow lowRes.... Can you tell us how it creates X-Y-Z from the trackpad? Where does the Z axis come from?

Do you know MIDITab ?

It can do this for any grahic tablet.
I use it with a Wacom and a Aiptek.
It works very well for X, Y and Z and support other functions (direction, buttons...) but my tablets are basic ones :-(

It is attached to a post in this thread: http://www.vjforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=7377

Holly the Z axis comes from pen pressure when using a tablet, no idea where it comes from using a normal mouse type laptop trackpad. This is obviously not as precise as the X & Y axis, but is still useful. I remember using pen pressure to control how much a flash file was zoomed in by, whilst X & Y controlled its position on the screen, worked a treat.
