I'm slowly getting A/V samples made for used in applications like Vegas, and Motion Dive Tokyo..
I have made all the A/V in question(abstract stuff mostly), starting with 24 bit elctronica audio samples, and mixing those with visual clips I make, which I have found, work well, but know i am wondering the best way to time streatch this video sample to fit the tempo of the sequence..
I was thinking of just taking down these A/V sample to 4 bars, 9which would be easier to sequence in traditional audio/midi sequencers such as Cubase and Sonar. (as these sequencers have a video track to monitor your AV output..)
Does anyone know of a 'Recycle' type application that could pitch shift/ streatch the video as well as the audio??
Below is a link to an A/V clip,(while not the best example of what I am making,) will give you an idea of what I'm up too..It will take QT5 or higher, and if you use the loop function in QT, will give you an idea how it would play..)

BTW, all the samples I am making are 720x480 DV codec, and the original clip was almost 30 meg's b4 I compressed it to what you see for this example which is coming in at a whopping 36k..:P

vegas video will let you timestrech the audio and video - hold down ctrl and drag the end of the clip

any way of stretching the A/V samp to a certain BPM(like in Acid Pro?)
I just started working in Vegas, and like it alot, but still don't know all the tricks..:)

Pixylight,
If worse comes to worse, you could always use a spreadsheet to run a calculation for the needed clip length (i.e. seconds) based on a particular number of bars or beats, and the BPM of the track.
I use this calculation all the time when trimming captured video clips in my editor apps.
Let me know if you need more details on how to perform this calc.

seems loop features will be improved with v5....
SONY UNVEILS VERSION 5.0 OF VEGAS SOFTWARE
PARK RIDGE, N.J., March 2, 2004 - Sony will introduce version 5.0 of its Vegas software, the latest upgrade to its award-winning, state-of-the-art video and audio non-linear editor, at NAB in Las Vegas next month.
The latest version of the Vegas software increases its functionality with even more sophisticated features, including 3D planar motion, film-style 5.1 surround panning, external control surface support, Loops for ACID ? "loop property" recognition, customizable keyboard mapping, real-time event reverse, network rendering, Sony DSR-DU1 and DSR-DR1000 disc recorder support, J-H3 HDCAM player support and much more.

Holy PixyLights!
thanks for the info Hamma!!
I really like the way Acid does the BPM calculations, and if that is ported over to Vegas!!
I am curious, how many of you who sequence music, would be using A/V samples in this manner?(with the audio part of the A/V making up major parts of the sequencing?)
Didn't Electronic based sampledelic music get started by sequencing audio loops in the first place?I really think that it will be getting more commen place to be buying ACid A/V loops and more A/V loops to work with..
what do you all think?/

the bpm calcuation is very important - you can only render video that is a whole number of frames so you have to stick to bpms that are suitable for your frame rate.
i have made a javascript calculator to do the maths - http://vjammpro.com/vjammpro/english/bpmcalculator.html
the way that acid does the looping rellys upon having the 1st beat at the start of the file - this often is not the case with video loops as the frameboundrys do not coincide with the start of the first beat - so you have to go throught the proces of manually restreaching to whole frames so as to move the frame boundrys to line up with the audio.
i doubt that they have sorted out acid style timewarping of AV clips as i think tht very very few people are awair of the significance of the frame position of video tracks.
(sorry if you don't understand this post - i'll try and answer any questions about it...)

Thx Tom,
Interesting indeed about frame line up.
I made all my audio samples using appegio's running at a predifined bpm (in this case 144) so the audio I have the BPM,
I am using Vegas too scrub the video so that there is a video event happening on the beat, so I havn't yet ran across that frame problem yet..
I was just wondering how to make these 144 BPM A/V sample's time stretch, without changing the pitch, as one unit, and maybe vegas 5 will do it...We'll see..

I think I see what you are getting at, but any more details or tips on how to make AV samples work properly would be much appreciated.
I'm sure that there are many other VJs who, like me, are starting to experiment with AV stuff and are just starting to run into the many issues of making both the audio and video sides work properly.
Dan.

i'm finding it quite dificult to explain the importance of all this in a single forum post... perhapse i should make a workshop for AVIT (allthough its a long way off at the moment - maybe at AVIT US though??)
i will try and get together some pictures and stuff and knock up a page that explains the method.
