Just a thought what about have more info in the side bar where we have the VJ posts/vjc pointsat the moment.

I was thinking location/catchment area for one. It will stop all the where are you based question which cause a lot of confusion. I know we have it in the profile but it would be so much easier have it at the side so we can see instantly.

We have collated the info already.

Also maybe as ***** was on about style/racking and subject like that too. I don't know what to call it but it could contain info about maybe professional/part-time or something. Anyway just an idea. IMHO a whole forum for 'professional' VJ is not required but an instant bit of info may be useful to some.

Maybe a forum for our international members where they could post in their own language and hopefully someone will be able to help them out. Just an idea lots of forums with an international community have a similiar thing.

ANy thoughts on this.

Good idea, I'll do that soon. Will require some coding since the countries are stored in a different table but it should be alright.

Yeah I'm still thinking about this one, like everyone I'm a bit confused about what such a forum would be like. Do you (or some other members) have any suggestion for other kind of forums which could be created? I think there is now enough posts/day to add some more...

Yeah it has been disccused on this other threads. There are indeed advantages to language-specific forums. I'll post a poll about it soon.

Sorry I might have been unclear about the ***** thing. I too do not know what to put in a new forum/ do not think one is needed for what he wants but the point about who does what I was refering too. I think a little more info in the side bar will hopefully sort out a lot of confusion.

I You cannot have too much info there just

Name: VJ Fred

Points: 0
Location: London, England
Style/Kit: Pro, Vjo w/ Tape Loops

or something I don't know it is hard to describe but maybe if you let people define it freeform in the profile (if enough regualar members use it newcomers will follow suite no doubt) . ANyway they can always have a sig with that info if you need it.

Then we could know what software they use etc instantly. I do not know who uses Visual Jockey, etc, etc instantly it does help esp from a newbie point of veiw.

Oh the international language thing I was thinking off was one forum for all the post/threads of an international nature.

By the way, I was thinking about splitting up the "Business Side" forum into one for promotion (how to get your name known, how to get gigs, etc) and one for management (labels, copyrights, contracts and all these things we usually learn the hard way). I'm just not sure if these two topics would cover all the topics usually discussed on the business forum.

What do you think?

Ooops, just saw your post, we posted at the same time. I'm not sure about the Style/Kit bit on the left, I think it would be messy. Also not everyone is interested in telling this, especially in the content section where it doesn't really matter what technology you're using.

But yeah, signature are perfect for this. If you go on most hardware forums everyone has their sig filled with hardware specifications :p (I mean, look at this (www.hardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=485022)!) So feel free to do this. Hardly no one use signatures here, but if some people started, more would follow.

:) the confusion of posting at the same time. :)

Yeah of course it could get messy at the side.

It just thought it might make it more 'formal' / 'professional'.

So x you get the ball rolling with the sig then. You could get a 'template' for others to follow.:)

(Edit: I was thinking of those OTT tech forums when I suggested the sig. :) )

Hehehe, icons are cool :) I think this could be pretty cool X, and then have the text of what each Icon stands for on a tool tip on roll over...... could be a good idea :)

The points are for writing and contributing over @ VJC mate, still hoping for some nice kit reviews from you :)

Maybe it's just me but I don't really care about who is VJing full time or not, and what kind of tools they use. That's why instead of making it official by adding icons and such, I think it would be much more simple to just use the signature/avatar in a freestyle way. Maybe I'll add the "Style/Kit" field Rovastar mentionned and members will be able to put whatever they want in this field.

i tend to agree with rova n *****, it would be nice to have a handy icons or summat to let us know who are vjovahs , who a vjammatics and who are resolume headz
also who are gear hogs and who are guerilla vj,s
i know that we can find that out by going into the profile but thats a lot of extra arse

Yeah I'm gonna throw my weight in for the icons too, and I think the fulltime/weekender thing is valid too.

Alright then, but I have no design skills so someone will have to make these icons. :)

wellREDman
3rd September 2002, 03:53 PM
what size and filetype do they have to be?

eXhale
3rd September 2002, 04:05 PM
They would have to be GIFs and I don't know about the size but since it seems there will be several icons per member, I guess not too big. Maybe the size of the smiley / message icons on VJF?

X

I see that the location feild is now which has the country (for most of us - The Americians get their states) but would it be possible to have the City in there too.

MAny of us have filed out this feild in our profiles and it would help focus in on our location/catchment.

i agree with rova on the city thing,
and doing the icons is more tricky than i thought i'td be,
how do you represent pro and hobbyist?
any suggestions would be welcome

MoRpH

I think that is basically the same thing as full/part time....... so use the clock suggestion, whole clock for fulltime/pro, half clock for part time/hobbyist.

yeah thats prolly better than my best thoughts of
babe in stockings etc. - pro
and model aeroplane - hobbyist

i was also thinking of a pig face for gearhog and a bit of camo for commando vj

One suggestion for the "pro" icon: http://www.videkaos.com/images/dollar.gif

And for the mobile VJ lol: http://www.videkaos.com/images/disk.gif

Found on a clipart site... :)

Hey eXhale, best don?t bother too much with the "Pro/Mobile/Hobby" distinction icons thing (Using your signature field is a better choice for that), because if you do it I would have to select every and each one of them on my profile (even Red?s insinuations)... well you know I?m from Cydonia anyway :D

personaly i dont see why everyone is so botherd about "carveing things in stone" and saying that is that, flexability is the key, maybe it's because i dont like defineing myself within these constraints

same here unju, these settings will be optional anyway (can't force the current 700+ members to choose their label)
