i don't know if it exists but i'm looking for a piece of software that allows me to have a firewire input from a dv camera appear on screen in 9 seperate boxes(grid form) and also allows me to apply delay to each individual image and for the grid to be able to be sent onto an extended desktop-wishful thinking i know.if there is any max jitta software that does a similar thing then i may be able to adapt it.any suggestions are welcomed.cheers

Very easy to build in Max/MSP/Jitter/SoftVNS.
With SoftVNS you'd need 1 v.dig object running it into a v.downsample (reduce to 1/3 size), then into 9 seperate v.delay objects (delay each stream), then into a v.composite object (put them all back together), then to a v.window (output to 2nd desktop).
Instead of a v.downsample, you could use a v.dice to 'dice' the stream and delay each of the 9 parts, then use the v.composite to put them all back together. Very cool effect.

You can do this easily with visualJockey ! Want to know how ? Just ask your question on the visualJockey forum and you'll find the help you need :) http://forum.visualjockey.com/

here you go.
change the avi player for a live input node (petes one or the VJo native one) - the relays may all reset themselves to root when you swap the live input in - if so just reconnect them all to the input node.

not bad Sleepytom but here are some corrections and optimizations :
a) You use 4x4 images (16 images) instead of 3x3 (9 images) like Twiki asked
b) To easily replace the AVI Loader with something else node without losing the relays simply place a Smooth node under it (but set it to do nothing or simply to downscale the resolution) and link your relays to the smooth node instead : This way you can place anything above it, even a whole composition, and not lose a single relay.
c) You don't need to use different delay durations for each delay node. Instead of linking each delay to the original input simply link them to the already delayed output coming right before. This way you only have to keep a buffer of 1 frame (or more if you want more delay) per delay node, effectivelay making the delay cumulative.
Again, if you need more help, there are lots of pro users on the official vJo forums.

yeh well i did it quickly and its not like the program comes with any help or documentation (it would make it such a more powerfull app if the nodes had an explation of what they actually did)
using seperate delay times allows easyer customising of the delay for each frame without the knock on effect on all subsequent frames (ie cumulative delay is less flexable)
having to use null effects to prevent relays resetting must be a bug - they can't intend it work that way?

videodelic will do something like that and its just for mac. not sure if it will do the specific delay effects you are looking for (havent used it for a while) but basically yes.
