OK ppl I just got around to checking on the progress with this app and I have to say on a reasonable PC it really kicks some ass...

Great FX, great switching/mixing, nice DBing and thumbing of clips, clean, simple (editable if you dig for the files) interface.

I think I'll put up a review, but there are some questions I have asked about it over @ http://babelfish.altavista.com/urltrurl?lp=ja_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Ftranszendent.sytes.net%3A10080%2F cgi-bin%2Fbbs.cgi their forum in english, if anyone could anser them I would pre very grateful as there must be some ppl out there speaking english and using this great software :)

OK I think most of the key board shortcuts are obvious cause they are labelled but I will put some of the not so obvious ones into a comment thread under the review :)

I'm digging on TZT, but how do I get the mixed output to my second monitor?

Its designed to be used with a scan convertor, not dual monitor.... Sorry.

Esotic

So I'm supposed mirror the monitor output to a scan converter and pan/zoom to the upper left corner of the TZT screen for my output display?

If so, do anyone have a good suggestion for a good/cheap scan converter?

TZT seems quite fast in comparision to other software video mixers (resolume, composite station, etc). Is everyone else noticing this as well?

yep thats wot you are supposed to do, for cheap scannies, check the scanny review on VJC we have a few now.

Yep TZT is VERY efficient and well coded. With the suggestions I have made to the author it could rock even harder :)

Is there a translated README file out there? I really can't get anything going with this. Looks like the readme that come with TZT has all the info, but in Japanese, and Babelfish doesn't seem to be able to translate this

The full english tutorial, will becoming tomorrow, right now I have a gig with Richie Hawtin tonight to focus on. Anyway enough name dropping :p

To load clips into TZT you actually have to move/copy the clips into a the material directory and then put them in folders bank0, bank1,bank2..... then in each bank folders called f1,f2,f3, etc.... each F foloder can have upto 18 clips/media. So a path to a file would be ........./material/bank0/F1/vidclip.avi

I had no idea......

<gasp>
I just installed the latest version of TZT on my backup laptop to supplement Arkaos on my main lappy, and must say I'm quite impressed, the directory structuring is easy once you understand what's going on with the interface.
running on win2000pro P3 700mhz 192megs ram, shitty laptop video card... GOOD STUFF... PC people should give this one a look if they're okay w/ lots of directories ;)

one thing: where's the MIDI? oh god it'd be incredible then...
don't forget a MIDI Learn while I'm making unreasonable demands! heheh :)

suddenly my "backup" computer might come center stage :)

thanks Triplet!!
I owe you a drink if we ever cross paths :)

TZT won't even load files that are bigger than 320x240, much less output them, will it? please someone tell me I'm wrong......

Esotic
23rd January 2004, 08:43 PM
I think TZT will load video and images of just about any size, but I don't think that it resizes them. I've loaded images of varying sizes and if they aren't tall or wide enough it just makes a black band to fill in the rest of the space. I've loaded in SWF files that were bigger than TZT and the video was cropped to the upper left 320x240 pixels.

It only outputs 320x240... well kinda. There are some options in the INI file for adjusting the size of the output window, but the results are not always attractive.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong,

Hello!
I would like to ask for some help with TZT,
I understand the software quite good until 3-4 past releases.

What is new in

TZT031202rel
TZT031223rel
TZT031227rel
and
TZT040120rel ?

How to use attached flash files?

Unfortunatelly I have big problem with "configurator" - TZTcustom.hta
i dont undarstand any of character, so I cant read it and I cant translate it (babelfish is useless), what does do new fields in tzt.ini (including midi)?

And most important question, how to fix problem with "broken display" ... I will try to describe it below

the presented picture is "broken", as if the bottom part of the picture was taken from the previous frame. The horizontal fracture is irregular - it keeps jumping up and down. It's a really nasty fault and it is terrible when i use the effect of fast blinking negative and positive !!
It looks really unprofessional

I have two different PCs (amd and intel based) both with ATI cards (9100 and 9000pro), I use TV-Out and rage tweaker to expand overscan.

Could somebody help me ?
Or can I contact somebody via email to discus these problems ?

thansk for any help
Jonek

TZT is supported dual monitor on Win XP.

<TZT.ini>

window=0
dual=1
.
.

The picture size which can be inputted is to 320x240.

With all the output options TZT has I dont understand why anyone would need a software scan convertor with it, its got the most comprehensive list of output options around (clone window, full screen, windowed, dual monitor).

okay... I'm seeing the lil box that is obviously for live text input, but I've no idea how to go about using it... anyone care to hold my hand through it? or even a shove out into the street? :)

PS.
Two shows with TZT now... compliments aplenty at both... thanks Triplet, you should come to an AVIT and show off yer goods, I think I owe you a drink of your choice too :)

Yeah might be time to update the TZT tutorial/review.

For live text, you must have a flash file in with .swf, .bmp thumbnail and .ini setting file in your material folders. As for actually inputting the text, hold one shift key down and press the other, this will light the box and let you alter the text, to complete your alteration press both shift keys again.

WordVirus23

so I need to make a lil .bmp thumbnail for the .SWF I'll be using, and what's the .ini file for? just key assignment? do I need to write my own .SWF text file or is it built in...? I'll investigate this more thoroughly this week... have a gig in 2 hrs, so perhaps not the best time to be dicking around :)

thanks a LOT for all your help morph, invaluable, and I've spread the TZT love on to some other local videots :)

Ahhh I'm glad you posted this. I'm a new convert to the church of TZT. :yep:

It does indeed mention something about MIDI in the TZTcustom file. But I can't seem to sort it out.

In case your new to TZT...

TZT accepts effectors plugins. There is a sample project that comes with TZT that you can use to create your own. You can also use Composite Station plug-ins with TZT (in case you happen to have some of those laying around).

I write plug-ins and you can download them from my website (http://esotic.com), which also contains a link to the translated (through babelfish?) TZT website. I'm continually adding new effectors and upgrading old ones, so if you'd like to make suggestions or keep on top of current developments you can go here (http://www.vjforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=4209).

There are FreeFrame plug-ins that work with TZT (damned if I could locate them on the new site, though) and the FreeFrame downloads are at http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeframe/

MoRpH
2nd February 2004, 10:38 PM
Just to let folks know I'm currently testing a app by pete warden that lets you import (and chain) freeframe and TZT FX and output them so they will work in TZT or Freeframe... bring it on :)

Esotic I have currently combined some of yours with some of pete's freeframe work and the results are very nice :)

Anybody know what the Sound=0 option is for in the TZT.INI file?

I was hoping to make some effectors and generators that react to the music in the room and was figuring maybe that would help me somehow.

Thanks,

I just got one of the $10 commandposts today :D

I figured it would be great w/ TZT since TZT can use strictly keyboard shortcuts.

But...I can't find a way to customize the shortcuts utilized by the commandpost :(

Does the VJ soft need to support configuration of HID devices in order to customize shortcuts?

Any ideas?

dotmatrix
6th February 2004, 10:33 PM
Oops nevermind.

This commandpost didn't come with the CP software, and for a while the Focus Info website didn't work.

I've got it now :D

yep its definately a playstation pad setup. Now WHY anyone would wanna control their VJ software with a controlelr as LAME looking in a performance as a PS controller is why I would wanna know, its already bad enough when ppl have no idea what your doing or think your play PC games :P

WordVirus23
8th February 2004, 02:45 AM
well... so you could hand the controller to anyone and let them have a go at it without fumbling around with 101 keys.

BTW... I saw mention in the same file of CTRL J-; but haven't heard what this combo does... playing shows the next two nights, so perhaps not the best time to be tinkering...

BTW, I broke down and bought a Dazzle DVC 80 USB vid capture thingy... appears to work, loads okay... but if you try to clear the channel it crashes... I'm using Pete's LiveIN1 and how I can get it to work, it load a clip, then load the LiveIN as an effect on the clip, the clip goes away, but the input shows up... is this proper... anyone else having issues with USB live input?

PPS. I've looked and can't find the johnny bros site/plugins... a URL would be appreciated...

PPS? I'm on win2000 pro, P3 700 laptop shite video card, 192 megs ram, using only .AVIs

Good gigs tonight all :)

In this case james I would say use the built in capture its much easier, less crash prone and faster for the app than pete's.

Once I have optimized my plugings (gotten rid of a lot of the useless and doubled up TZT/CS/JB/zipimage plugins) I'll send you a copy :) and shut up stove no need to make some silly "you'll be waiting till 2005 comments mate :P
