The first international V.J. Central.com conference

Our access to audio-visual information in the early 21st century has grown exponentially, with the boundaries between these media's blurring by the day. As in the mid to late 80?s, when it became possible for anyone with a little bit of equipment and a half decent ear for a tune to side step the music industry and create broad cast quality music, the explosion of cheap technology has now made it possible to do the same with film and with this ability there has grown a myriad of new forms and types of expression. V.J.?ing is one of those forms. It aims to mix visual loops and films with the beat of a D.J. to create a seamless audio-visual experience that can touch on many levels.

VJ Central.com

?The goal of VJCentral is to be a central platform for VJs,
where visual artists from all around the world can come and
Share their knowledge with other VJs. Considering the small
number of people who are doing this around the world, this
site will hopefully help those who are desesperate to know
More about VJing and will enable those who are doing this for
quite some time to meet fellow VJs and talk with them on our
chatroom and the message board, VJForums.com.

Most importantly, VJCentral use a custom-built open-publishing
system. It means that any registered member (and anyone can
register for free in 3 seconds) may add content to the site
and it will be available at once to other VJs. Editors (see
below) may edit or delete inappropriate postings but if you
follow the guidelines (which are here to guarantee the quality
of the content), you'll not even notice them. By adding new
things on the site, you'll actively help to build the first
community site for VJs by VJs on the web! :)

So ultimately the goal of VJCentral is to be a huge knowledge
database on how to VJ (Techniques section), a source of
inspiration (Content section) as well as a place where plenty
of VJs around the world can meet, discuss and have fun!
(Community section). It will definitely be a work on progress
to expect to see new features added on a regular basis.?

Exhale, VJ Central creator and editor.
The idea behind a VJ Central conference.

The original idea behind what the v.j.central gig was a to make the site/experience a bit more tangible rather then the virtual experience that it is at the moment, which has, like the way of these things developed into something different created through communication between people at vjcentral, based on the idea of communication between each other and the outside world, linked up to many aspects of our lives working within the industry that we do.
Also within this whole experience is the understanding that it gives people an opportunity to be a part of the organization experience. Learning one of the most valuable life lessons of, you can D.I.Y. it.
So the basic proposal is to create a physical reality of the web world that lots of us our part of, this has now moved into something much wider and more inclusive. From both other peoples desire and my own recent and ongoing experience of conducting V.J. workshops.
At this stage there seems to be a collectively growing pitcher of the whole experience.

3 main aspects-
To bring together both established and up-and-coming artists within the field of live audio-visual mixing thus creating a space to share views and techniques.

To further raise the profile of this form of media.

To showcase individual skills and art along side leading D.J.?s

How we aim to do this.

Day time.

A) The conference: An open discussion space about the various aspects of the work that we are involved within, ranging from the nature of the industries it?s self, what we as V.J.?s bring to the party experience, the bisnus side including the copyright debate, getting gigs, contracts and fare wage, etc.

These will be held in a semi-formal style with a panel of ?experts? a host and the audience. With the host opening up the discussion to the panel for a brief summery of there positions and then opening it up to the audience to continue and develop the discussion.

B) Open workshops: Run by software developers. These will be run on an open, hands on basis ware people can come and be shown the particulars of the software and have a go with the individuals set up.

C) Work from smaller V.J. krews, short films from Northern Film School students and possible art installation (space depending) We are at the moment putting out a call for interested parties from www.vjcentral.com

Early evening.

A more ?arty? performance based experience, that has far more audience focus then what has happened during the day. I.e. focus the audience?s attention to one specific space or stage (Two possibilities, 1) evolution bar 2) make a link up with a bar within the immediate vicinity) V.J.?s and D.J.?s/live P.A.?s set up but touching upon a more experimental side of the audio-visual experience.
This could be seen as a continuation of any installation work that has gone before during the day.
1) The more experimental side of the audio-visual experience, using both sound and images to communicate ideas and perceptions of the human condition.
2) Bringing visuals to heighten the experience of the party space.

This space could be seen as a pre-club build up with a twist.

Late night gig.

The party space linking up with ?technique?, with the visuals seamlessly integrated with the sounds.

Sounds great!

We've got a gig in London on Friday 11th but we'll be up the motorway as quickly as we can on Saturday to make it to AVIT!

Hey , orville here a overenthusiatic new kid on the forum block. I read about the avit event on vj central.com a site where I jumped on from time to time to check out everything new in vj land across the globe. I decided to write in (you never know right?) and see if we could do a set there. I never realised that the forum was such a big place with information and people all busy with one of my loves : beaming/vjing/whatever you want to call it.

I'm a member of Prime Meridian : a six headed crew with one concept in mind. to fuse our thought about design, video, motion graphics to one hypergallery/show to vj /or other media to play with in the concept.

We've been quite succesfull in the netherlands (all though I think we can get better and more pro with it) with finally getting a residency at Xcess: a techno organisation. after the receiving of a positive note from spark to do our thing I decided to join the forum as well. good plan. I've never seen a place like this online and the thought off all these people being busy with something I'm very passionate about makes me extremly happy.

Well I hope we'll see you all in leeds if you'll want us there and if we can help out with anything please let us know. we're young but we have great experiences and knowledge in the field...in holland anyway :)

thank you vjforum: this is the best thing online vjing wise!

see you soon!
