Does anyone VJ at a resolution higher than 320 by 240? I'm using motion dive and visual jockey. if so, what resolution, and what specs are required on a Pc to handle it?

For things that need higher definitions, i use 400*300 clips at 800*600 (Vjo, normal qual)
This gives more quality space when distorbing, but also takes a lot speed - take a look at Vjo forum, at the
Resolution Tread (http://www.dvmachine.com/vj/viewtopic.php?

yup..
320 =200 = garbage
640x480 = low res
800x600 = above composite brodcast : ie normal res

depends on your style. if wanna gonna hard on ur material
with realtime vjsoft efx, you will sure gain speed on a "lowrez" like half PAL/NTSC.
if u into some "hirez" electronic tapestry, just treating videostreams tru a vidmixer, u'd be fine with a s-vhs/vhs Deck
or player applications 800x600 style

I use 400 x 300 because that's the fastest res on my laptop / scanconverter combination.
I'd use higher res if I could (although even then I'd probably pixelate some of my clips because I like the effect) but triggering, scratching and layering clips on my current hardware just isn't going to happen at any more than 400 x 300.
I've got two hardware mixers so my eventual plan is to have multiple laptops so that they deal with the minimum of laters each.
Jojo - what sort of kit do you use to ouput at 800 x 600?

hi...
depends on the software you?re using.
most vj softs (at least the one i tried) have a documentation that deals with codec/resolution stuff.

latest was athalons again
( my local dealer has me a deal where He keeps me three months ahead of what he's selling as fresh stcok, Basicly what he has on test in his rig) the only thing that stays constand is the rackmounts and the storage drives.
Anyways I out on dual monitor with the second in full screen through a snell & wilcox scanconverter. higher res is possable but the hardware is still just a little bit twitchy at 800x600 mostly any loss if from the codecs but codecs seem to be less liky to hang a box than huge uncompressed so its a trade off.
And I gotta say that for once its damn near possible to gig at composite+ on soft thanks to such as resloume as a loop handler (cept Im prettymuch only loop for key and overlay shots) still such softs are good to see. there only limitatin seems to be hardware
