Could (and would) anyone explane the difference between a XGA and SVGA beamer and also about the amount of ansi-lumen . I'm trying to lease one so others could rent it from me.
These compagnies are going to use the beamer mostely for still projections nearby. I would like to use it in a club (duh) (so the disstance will vary). I hope someone can give me some advice. Thanx!

theres a load of info here
briefly
if its just for video then resolution is not too important - if you want to use vga then it is
a good zoom range is usefull
a good contrast ratio is important
1000 lumens min

also very useful is keystone correction.
if you are intending renting it out be advised that dry hire insurance is prohibitively expensive we intended renting ours out but it turned out to be unviable

thnx so far,
but what i forgot to mention is that the beamer will (also!) be used to project still images (from a laptop) on the studio walls. It;s for a television show so the quality must be good when the whole thing is recorded and broadcasted.
Any advice on what to buy?

look for a feature called line doubling, it's on all the phillips models but I don't know about others, the lack of it is noticable when yr image is very large (picture looks liney)

line doubling is only relevent for the video inputs - it has no effect on a progressive scan VGA signal
sounds like you want an xga projector around 1500 - 2000 lumens with keystone a good zoom and high contrast - its really hard to sugest a spacific model without knowing your budget but i've been very impressed by NECs range of projectors

Are SVGA projectors of the same spec (lumens etc) noticably worse that XGA models though ????

It depends what you're doing
For your reference:
Format Horizontal x Virtical Mpixels
VGA 640 x 480 0.31
SVGA 800 x 600 0.48
XGA 1024 x 768 0.79
SXGA 1280 x 1024 1.31
UXGA 1900 x 1200 2.28
720p 1280 x 720 0.92
1080p 1920 x 1080 2.07
If you're trying to show detail in a large photo then you need a large resolution. The eye isn't that good at seeing detail when there is lots of movement, but when things are still you can see more than the projector's resolution allows.
If people are able to walk close to a big screen to see a still image then I recommend a high resolution. If your original photos are on 35mm slides then use a slide projector.
