ok one and all need ideas on what we want to discuss, we are going to be runing 3 discusions about 1 to 1.5 hours long apice, ideas so far
what is a vj
art vs entertainment
what do we bring to the experiance(are we worth the mony)
what do's it mean to party in the 21st centuary
the bissnes side and how to get work
are premoters realy the devil incarnate
the way it will be run is intro and then into open discusion/question within the frame work of the topic
4/5 "opinions/experts" and a host to keep the conversation flowing
we will be bringing in promoters/managers/artists/thinkers for this set up

Come on people!
The format is still 3 discussions, an hour long with an hour inbetween for followups while other stuff is going on elsewhere. We need three themes that will hopefully stir debate such that at the end of the day we've addressed the main issues of being a vj today and can write it all up into some strong content for VJC... and even possible syndication to the outside world.
I strongly want the last discussion to be a 'what do we do next; what does the upcoming vj community need to further itself?'
But what do you think? What issues burn in your visualista soul? Time is running out, things are having to go to the press etc etc

i was going to say the next step would be to tern the ideas in to 3 coherant discusions and then define who would be good to be involved in that said discusion (i kinda like the idea of oposits but hay thats just me :) )
but.......
we aint even got the topics yet (much as i would like to discus the things that are imortant to me, as in above, but.......)
so yes let's know what you think is important to this bisness we know!?! and love!?!

Must have missed this thread before.
I am up for a discussion on any of the above....but
a) we have chatted about most of the things here on the forums amongst ourselves. Therefore we will be going over old ground again. Often only deep passionate discussion occurs when a new member with strong veiwpoints joins (***** & me spring to mind :) )
b) This will only work IMHO if you get the club side involved a lot - I dunno DJ's?/clubbers?/ but those promotors mainly. Are promotors (in perticularly promotors who do not have visuals/see no worth in them) really going to enter this debate?
Can you get these people to join in? I mean would a promotor want to discuss this when in their minds it will be a whole group of VJ's saying 'book me, book me'.
SOrry to sound negative if you can get them in then that is brilliant and will make a really interesting chat.

even if it does rehash stuff that's been threaded, there's nothing like getting a group of people face to face and it playing out in realtime. you wouldn't believe how interesting the copyright discussion was at vjs.net with the right panel... but yes one of the things about AVIT is that its a bit more street level up, rather than vjs.net established coldcutians/academia down, so bringing in the promoters and punters can only be a good thing for our understanding and the debates themselves.
the opportunity of these debates is to condense all these threads that come and go into one snapshot 'state of the vj nation' that can act as serious vjc content, be used as a reference point for the future...

Face to face is magic but we could all meet up in the pub at AVIT and have the same thing chat if no promotors et all will be there.
(actually that remind me we should meet up in London soon. Bit busy this week now but next week should be good.:))
Has anyone got any promotors to be there or are we just hoping they will here about and turn up?

Arrragh more postings at the same time.:)
OK Do you know of any promoters (maybe smaller venues with limited(er) budgets) in the area that do not have VJ/do not like them. That would make it really interesting. Rather than just them saying 'Yes we have VJ every week anyway' there will be no fun in that.:)
I don't want to make it a (total :) ) sales pitch just want to here there opinions.

we dont need the coferance space to talk shop with each other we'll do that anyway, it should be geared more for the public to find out what it is we do
