Erm yay!?!?! all very nice if you are having a rave in your bedroom, otherwise 250w is just not poswerfull enuf! Good in their day (1920's ;)) but now you wanna go for their big brother, the K4.

i dont agree charlie
the solar 250 is a stalwart for any young budding vj/ club party promoter with a small venue...or rock band wanting cool fill

from my punky roots through psychedelia to clubs....great solid tool

its where most of us started from!! i still pull mine out for lighting up dark corners - still produces a smile from most! especially when teh 70s soho porn wheel comes out!!

worth ?23 - 100 in my book anyday - nust make sure teh rubbers on teh wheels hevent degraded or the small colour effects wheels fall off

Indeed they are good for lighting a small corner - especially with an interesting wheel ;) (far and few between, tho you can may your own) but the fact is that a simple moonflower will kill them and they get screwed notoriously easily! If they go for ?25 then get them, but don't consider it an investment for your VJ gear nowadays since they simply wont show up other than somewhere very very dark. If you think about a small band, basic par cans ususaly come in two powers, 500W and 1kW, just one 500 will light out your opti.

but yer, they are great, if a bit useless.

theres nothing wrong with solar 250's they are still in production today.
They have a wide use from gobo's to effects.
And are still cheap.
give me a simple par can and I will kill a 5K lumens projector, doesn't mean the projectors shit.

I didn't say they they were shit, I was just pointing out that in the several years of doing event lighting, i have never found a use for them since they are not bright enuf for any club / event i have been to - tho with an oil wheel, they made great lighting for my office - very soothing ;)!

The solar 250's can be modded to 6000 + lumens output...

The Opti K4 or its predecessor the Solar 575 are seriously powerful. Happily projected from the back of the Albert Hall onto the backdrop of a stage filled with powerful intelligent fixtures with great effect.

The K2 (and K2+) are brighter than the Solar 250 but you really need a 575W discharged sourced K4 or Solar 575 for larger venues.

None of it is cheap, but remember the Opti gear will last decades longer than just about any other gear in your racks! Discounted new and used Optikinetics is available from
