If at the end of the day you are wondering; What?s going on now with this piece of crap if just a few minutes ago everything was running damn good?

Well, then you really have no idea how much & how many awful/creep critters, gremlims and depredators are out there wild after your sorry little tiny ass.
Sometimes it?s just our own fault installing every shit our fancy gets to put our claws on, but the most of the times you are absolutely unaware and ignorant where all this doom comes from.

Yeh, yeh, yeh, I?ve already heard the same bullshit, smartass, noisy lame little song before:

1) I?m just running the Best/Last UpToDate OS around...
2) I?ve already applied each & every Patch and Service Pack available...
3) I?m using the Best/Last UpToDate Antiviral soft on earth...
4) I?m also running the best kickass AntiTrojan soft, just in case...
5) I?m running everyday the unbelievable best Spyware/AdWare Removal tool in the planet...
6) There is no way anyone is running a better PopsAd/Dialers/TrackWare killer soft than me...
7) I bet I?m using the best Cache/History/Trace IEwasher on the market...
8) I?m behind the best configured HW & SW firewall you can think about...
9) I?m always OnLine using only the best ProxyServers Anonymacy tools in the galaxy...
10) Blah, Blah, Blah, Yadda, Yadda, Yadda...

Aren?t you sure yet?... Do you still don?t trust me?... Uhmmmm, Are you dare enough to click on this link? Scare by yourself (http://gods.offshoreclicks.com/protect.php?sob=1)

Well this is just the tip of the iceberg, it?s just a so-so harmless example to try open your eyes, but believe me I have way much more to show you if you want. ;)

Yeah, it?s mandatory and a good practice to have each and every item of the 9 points above already solved properly, but don?t forget; it?s not only important to stay InControl about what dangerous shit is coming in from the exterior, it?s usually even more important to stay InControl about what SHIT is coming out from your own PC.
So don?t say I?m not warning you in advance for the next time you are BareAss OnLine wearing that Glowing/Flashing sign yelling: Hey look "Here I am"... ;) :alien:

P.S. Why this thread in the Future?s forum?.. Hum... Errrm... WatchOut!!! :P

?My point? :smack: :D

It?s not always obvious when the unknown beating the obviousness...

I?m sure we both have seen this before when ppl very often are moaning around scratching their heads when the obvious is not knocking the door but suddenly your VJing box appears to be possessed.

It?s just a humble attempt to throw a few coins into the tin ;)

yep well most people can't actually tell that there computer is knackered

the seperate OS installation for performance is the way to go - no network, no antivirus, no stupid little utils making the systray a mile wide, no office, no findfast, you can go a bit mental and turn off all the services your not using if you like - will speed up boot time if nothing eles....

I might add that I never ever connect any of my work computers to the net : like Tom said I just disable or remove all services/apps/annoying_windows_features. It also helps a lot if you ever have a problem with your PC : with fewer extras and apps it's much easier to find where the problem is coming from.

When I was working as a technical director in videogame development, for each game project I worked on I requested that all the PCs in my department weren't connected to the net at all, only to a LAN without any web connection. This is not only cheaper than any firewall, it is also much more efficient ! Try to hack this ;) You all know it's easy to lose time on the job by browsing the web, but without any web connections let me tell you my employees productivity went way up :)

The only problem with this is when you need the last Visual C++ update, the last development drivers for your 3d card, or any other piece of data coming from the outside. And let's not forget emails ! The solution : use one or two cheap computers as web machines and use a CD/DVD burner to bring data from the web PCs to your work PCs. This also has the advantage of letting you see when your employees are browsing the net and to find if any of them is losing too much time on the web.

At first some people saw me as some kind of dinosaur afraid of the web (which I am not) but with time all people on my team came to understand my decision and to appreciate its advantages.

why not add some real tips to the thread

1 - Start - Run - Msconfig - ok

Startup - Disable All - reboot

2 - TaskManager , check performance , if there is high cpu usage and you are doing nothig , check the processes list , find each image name is using the cpu, after go to " Start - Run - Msconfig - ok "

Services - Hide All Microsoft Services

a smaler list must be there , try to match the image name that was taking lots of cpu usage with the names that are in that list in services ... or if you see a bizarre name in the list , something you are sure you have not on the computer ... uncheck it

reboot
