sony lithium battery conspiracy...

:confused: I use a PD 150 mini DV Camera daily to produce short streaming vids online. So I value a long lasting battery... hence I have a NP - F960 which I've been using for about 2 years. This was sold to me under the pretence that it has NO memory and therefore will never need to be replaced (they aint cheap!). That's the theory!
Well over the last week the battery life has diminished to under half the original. It's been sudden and I'm not happy. I rang an AV specialist who told me that Sony lithium batteries only last 2-3 years... but couldn't explain why! Can anyone else out there help explain? or has anyone else had this problem? just wondering if it's another way for Sony to make money out of us...

batteries do only have a limmited life - much like anything they can't work for ever - 2 years is pretty good going for a battery - they will last longer if you cycle them propperly and don't just top them up (the no memory thing is not true they are just a lot better than NiMH)

sony are cunts though - if you get one of there new cameras and then try and use a non-sony battery it puts up a message on the lcd saying "sony batterys only"

?80 is not really that expensive for a battery to go on a ?3000 camera though is it?

I had the dubious pleasure of the ps2 launch in Dublin. 5hrs to fill on x3 50 ft screens, and all they supplied on the day was x6 20 sec clips.

I was running my own Viao and the big wigs splashed champers into it at the after gig celebration.
did they replace it?

When it dried out it would only charge the battries at random. other than that the thing was fine.
I sent it off and they figured it would cost me ?800 for a new m/board... since there was no method of externally charging the battries..
I tild them where and how the problem came about, only to be told that ps2 arnt part of sony viao and hard luck.

Then the real clanger. They informed me that the Sony Smart Battery in my viao had been tampered with and the seal was broken. (no shit.. Id had a previous email from them telling me that that had opened it to check it wasnt the fault) Any ways I was fuckin angry that the only thing wrong with the viao was that it wouldnt run or charge from the mains adapter and asked about an external charger. Sonys answer was NO, the viao smart battry can only charge in the laptop. the closest thing to an explination from the dude on the phone was something about circutry that multiplexes dc out from the battry on a combination of pins (it sounds pretty fuckin stupid to me) the gist of it being that there are three active pins 0v an the the two switch dc +/- in turn to a clock thats matched by the laptop... FUCKIN MADDNESS. but Sony do seem to have avoided anyone using a powersupply to shove 18volts up its arse and make it work without paying them a fortune..
May Sonys battries turn into hemeroids and corrode the collective arseholes of their corperate designers arseholes ( and may I capture the footage of their faces as it happened)
