Hello,

I've not found too many links to information on mounting a camera in a lighting grid. I have 3 cameras waiting to be used but can't find any mounting solutions anywhere...

I've looked through VJF but although there are links to mounting cameras on cars, etc. there is nothing specifically on mounting a camera to a lighting bar.

Does anyone know a suitable device, and where I can buy it?

Weight is no more than 1.5 kg. Fixed angles could be OK as the cameras are able to Pan and Tilt on their own.
Standard camera plate thread.

Thanks,
Alan Geering

tell me the type of your cameras
i have done this several times, using standart lighting clamps like doughty for example.
is there a nut on the base plate of the cams? if yes, any clamp will fit, but you'll have to use a screw that fits, and some metal rings, too.

Thanks.

OK, seems fair, I'd never thought of something as simple as just using a nut with the correct thread.

The cameras are Picturetel PTZ cameras, they were salvaged from Venue 2000 and Concorde 4000 video conference systems. I'm writing software to get them to move from laptop control.

Previously I've mounted my VX2000 in a lighting grid. It was done safely but the situation was not ideal.

I have a little Manfrotto clamp with a spigot that fits into it ( so you could also use it to secure a light) the spigot is threaded. I usually just use it with a little ball and socket head but you could also fit a pan and tilt one.

Manfrotto also make a magic arm with a clamp at each end.

Very cheap to hire from film lighting companies and can be a lifesaver for fitting screens to balconies etc.
....& don't forget that safety chain.

my VJ partner is a grip by proffession so Im lucky enuff to have all kinds of mounting stuff to use :)

what you want is a magic arm,
damn useful bits of kit for all sorts of things,
theres also a lighter weight one called a fly arm which are loads cheaper if your camera isnt too heavy

we get ours from Arri but they dont seem to have Grip kit listed on their website , but i found all sorts of similar stuff here (http://www.b-hague.co.uk/Mounting%20Brackets.htm#SC2) thesuperclamp with ball leveller should do you for just hanging a camera from a truss

OK, thanks guys.

I'm looking for a cheap, solid design because it now looks like I could be doing a more perminant install of one of my cameras into a theatre. My father has a workshop and I'm going to knock simething up over the next few days (my so-called christmas break).

Thanks for all the links. I'd come across one of the sites before but hadn't thought to search the manfrotto site... bit silly of me really.

Anyway, thanks again, I'll use this thread to tell you if things work out.
