Hello,
We're putting together some visuals DVDs (I'll post a BSP in a few days) and so far we have only NTSC versions.
I was just wondering if those of you in PAL-world generally have equipment that can also play NTSC, or whether we should really make PAL versions of the DVD's as well.
Thanks alot for any and all feedback!

most pal dvd players will do some kind of ntsc playback (usually PAL60) this means most people should be able to watch ntsc dvds however quite a few people will not be able to watch or will get a black and white picture.

My nextbase portable plays NTSC, most other DVD players can ply it but its not standard that the DVD player plays it..

NTSC playback on our DVD players (Pioneer DV-466's) jump around - I think its is coming though as PAL60 as Tom said but haven't checked it out to much.
Any DVDs that don't play properly due to being NTSC I generally rip and re-encode as PAL... maybe not a good step to have people take if all that is required is to make some PAL disks at your end...

are you sure tom that ntsc dvd's output PAL60? I use a lot of ntsc material and never had problems on any gear, including antique tellies that are definitely pre pal60 (did this exist pre widescreen tellies at all?)

If they are meant to be remixed by others, no one in PAL land can remix PAL 60hz... It maybe an antycopy!!! ;-)

If they are meant to be a source for VJ's to mix with there would have to be a PAL version cause even though the DVD players can mostly cope, a Videomixer can't mix PAL and NTSC sources, and all our other source material would be PAL!

OK,
Its clear that making the DVD's in PAL is basically a requirement. Thanks for the feedback, especially interesting to hear the specifics of why... id never heard of PAL 60 before, or thought about mixing one video signal with another.
