this coming weekend the uk crew will be found in a cottage somewhere outside taunton, talking about just where the avit thing has been and where we need to go. specifically, there's decisions on what to do in 2004 and things like funding that need to get going immediately, but its also a rare chance for people to get together and get a bit of perspective... just what is avit, what should it be doing, and people's roles and relationships with it.

so all in all its quite an important weekend for the future of avit and certainly avit uk, and if there is any input you'd like to have get in touch and we'll work it out - we should be reachable either on mobiles or email. my number is 07974914725.

and in the true spirit of avit - making this virtual community real, if you're in the westcountry and want to come along and hang out (sorry give your viewpoint and suggestions), i'm sure there'll be some pub antics and suchlike... withnail moments optional =]

well, it happened and a summary will be coming your way soon via red, who has stepped up to be a much more proactive voice of avit on these forums.

the main outcome i'd say is that avit uk will curate proposals for festival events, and then coordinate the individual, effectively self contained events.

so instead of a group of people organising a festival on behalf of a community, its facilitating the community to run the festival itself.

Yes one of the main subjects to come up at what became AvitUks first AGM is that we need to have more input from and feedback to the VJC community.
as such we have created a new role Of Avit UK spokesperson, whos main job is to ensure that there is enough dialogue between the avit uk organisers and the VJC members

This is now my official job so any questions ppl have about avit feel free to pm me.

there will be a full report of all the discussions and decisions that got reached in a wind and rain lashed converted barn in the wilds of somerset last weekend, within the next week or so, and a document comprising ideas for events, descriptions/pics of venues and breakdown of how proposals should be made for avitUk2004 at some point early in the new year.

but the basic facts to get your thinking heads round in the meantime is that AvitUk2004 will be taking place in November, in and around the Custard Factory in Birmingham.

the idea is to have more of a modular structure, with different groups and individuals running their own events, be they installations, clubnights , workshops etc.within the overall avit umbrella.
at the moment were looking at running over a whole week in 2 discrete parts, the conference, which will be workshops etc. will be mon-friday daytimes only, and the festival, which will be performances etc, will be friday to sunday evenings .

but as i said, there will be a post detailing how to make these proposals as well as suggested ideas and details of the spaces available, once the Yuletide insanity is passed .
