I've been using Akaos 2.1 for a year now and have developed much of my live performance around it. Recently I upgraded to a TiBook 800mhz and OS X and was excited to enjoy my new performance tool.
I downloaded Arkaos 2.2 and installed it on my machine. To my dismay they have removed the AIFF audio playback plugin which I use in most of my patches.
I have also found that 2.2 crashes frequently (at least on my machine). I have emailed the Arkaos tech support for help and have not heard back from them yet.
They have been very helpful in the past and I thought their software was one of the best video samplers out there, especialy in terms of responsivness. Unfortunately, with it crashing every few minutes in OS X, I can't really use it in live performances any more.
I'm also disappointed that they removed functionality (audio clip playback) from the last version and did not clearly indicate this (at least anywhere that I saw).
Hopefully I can clear this up with the Arkaos support team.
Is anyone else experiencing the instability of Arkaos 2.2 in OS X?

Just used Arkaos 2.2 with OS 10.2 on Saturday for the Jeff Trott Band (http://www.jefftrott.com) and it worked flawlessly. I used it in conjuction with visualJockey (for the interactive visuals) and used Arkaos to chroma key in some flash clips and video clips. Arkaos can be quite interactive if you use a MIDI device to control multiple layers of FX, but it doesn't support 4 virtual mice and joysticks like Visual Jockey. The audio automation in Arkaos still kinda sucks though, not even close to that of vJo...
Arkaos gives you a lot of layers of FX which allow the artist to create new and unusual behaviours in realtime. It takes practice and skill to know how to work the controllers to get reproducible results however...

Why do my AVI files go blank and can't be run in Arkaos. I'm running on W2K platform. Works fine with MOV files.
Confused????? Anyone...... help??

It is like a compatibility issue with codecs. Quicktime will only play AVIs that use codecs that Quicktime has. Some common ones are Cinepak and Indeo, both of which are supported by AVIs and MOVs. In general, stick with codecs that are common and distributed by larger companies, they will work the best. This kinda sucks for me because I have been using the PICVideo MJPEG codec for AVIs, which does not play with QT.
