so...finally managed to wrestle myself away from tokyo.
what a trippy place if you are into visual bombardment.
for someone like me who believes in media integration - even i was stunned.
the japanese are streets ahead when it comes to visual communication - from graphics to vidphones to mega walking talking billboards that makes teh led screen at big chill look teeny and lame. a simple presentation takes on 10 data projectors from all angles
the vj circuit is still well integrated into club culture. teh bigger vjs are big names and work more in teh software development or big perfomance/ crossovers.
big shouts out to digitstage who are very good thinkers and they big up the AVIT oganisation for teh excellent work. look out for their LIFE with Photocinema software which is clever (ill write a report soon). they are also getting around to answering the billions of requests from global vjs re: md3 and md4. they apologise but they have been SO busy - thee is only 5 of them for god's sake and they start work at 10pm and work till dawn. these guys are mad but beautiful.
kit IS cheaper in tokyo - kaos entrancer pad = 380-400 pounds
teh v4 about 600 pounds
they are all using teh latest kit. which is great
didnt see one mx50in tokyo!!
which is much teh same sort of problem we are facing here in shanghai where the concept of vj is still set in that MTV mode.
computers, wireless cams, 2nd hand kit and cameras and audio rig are pretty easy to come by, but a video mixer is really hard to find to hire or buy.!!
we have been told that if we look hard enough one will tumble from somewhere....its been 7 days and im still looking!!
with another 7 days b4 our a/v performance im getting worried. will report back more laters.
:yep:
