Might not be the case for you, since you've got an NVidia, but one annoying feature of the ATI card in my laptop is that unless it detects something valid plugged into the SVideo out, it greys out all the options in the settings and disables the output. I have to plug it in, then reload the settings every time.

make sure you've got something plugged in (with something on the other end, that's turned on) to the svid or vga out on your laptop. Once something is detected there, the options will turn on. I've also got the gf440go and win2k.

There is about the same problems with Mac portables, all the Powerbook line are able to run a second monitor as long a video cable is connected when start up the computer or after waking it up.

With the iBooks it is different, not secund monitor is avalible just the mirroing of the main one.

Be carefull out there when getting Mac or PC portable computers, they not always carry 2nd function no matter the price of the video card.

For Mac users; Get the Powerbook G3 500 Mhz (pismo) in place of any iBook, the Pismo is about $1000 or less, up to 1Gb of ram, 8MB video ram (enough) and for $200 you can get a G4 500 processor!!!.

dahboo,

sorry for not replying sooner,
i just recently lost a lot of time arguing with *****;)

OK.
before you right-click on the desktop to "properties",
make sure you're connected to your TV,
either via the side connection,
or the VGA connection via scan-con.

next right-click on the desktop to "properties".
if you are properly connected the option
"extend my desktop to this montinor"
should NOT be greyed out.

if it is, then you've got a problem, from the start...
my suggestion is : test it via the VGA connection,
its more reliable (fullproof).

anyhow
when you DO get that option available,
DONT ENABLE IT
go strait to the "advanced" tab
and proceed as i explained in the above post.
the nView monitor cloning option will always be greyed out
if that "extend my desktop" option is turned on...

tell me if that worked...

i have same card on satellite 1955-s801

the key to getting the clone option is disabling the second monitor. i turned off the 'extend my desktop'. then go to the first monitor and do advanced proprtieous. you should now see NVIEW. and you can do clone. make sure you set the refresh rate correctly otherwise itll look terrible on the cloned screen

theres another option which i have unset and i dont know eactlyh what it does but its kinda hidden so check it out too if youre interested .. under geforce4 440 to 'additional properties' and chose 'enable advanced multiple monitors' from the bottom of the scrolling list of options under 'direct X'.

no it's either on one screen or the other i'm afraid...

on their support page on their website...

Bit late coming in on this one but something worth adding:

If you get greyed out info on any card settings when trying to get dual screen or TV out, check the resolution and colours of the primary screen.

I pulled out lots of hair for months trying to work this out on a Sony laptop with a NeoMagic card (I think). Turned out the TV out would only work if 800 x 600 with 16bit colours was selected on the desktop screen.

Also, for what its worth, it would seem that manufacturers are starting to take the TV out seriously so updating your driver can make a big difference. I updated an Intel driver for my laptop recently and whereas before it was unviewable, the new output is relatively flicker free.
