Hello! Hope everyone's having a lovely day!!!!
Is it possible, if I design a software interface, for only part of the screen to be projected? This will mean the controls/ libraries are not viewed by the 'spectator'. How is this done? - what code should I be looking at using?
How are libraries of images usually worked on computer software for the VJ -ie - how can you access libraries without them being projected?
Again, thankyou for any help - invaluable! x

libraries in what? vj soft libraries?
You can output to second screen so no one see interface, else if no tv out, you can use scan convertor. But really need more info on software, platform, what libraries etc

Take postcards and tape them to the front of the beamer over the parts of the lens that shows your interface:P

What I mean is that the software would be completly designed in Flash, so all self contained and ready for projection.. but the interface would feature a 'preview' screen/ box showing what is to be projected and choices of 'movies'/ or video clips to be displayed on each layer around the box (thats what I meant by libaries), with controls such as alpha variables, etc. So I need to build the software so that part of the screen only (say half) is projected, controls remain unseen..
But I dont understand what you're saying about tv out and scan convertors - are there any links I could check? Much appreciated. x

Well, if you don't have multiple output cards. You can try the scrim approach.
See my project KataFX3 at www.katascope.com
Basically the interface is held in a thin bar at the top of the screen. Most projectors can clip that section, so all the audience sees is the normal screen.

You're the member who was asking about flash-based software the other day, yes? It would be easier to link this post to the other one as they are relevant. Did you look up the two apps I told you about - Flashmixer and Vlight? If not, do this as it may save you a shitload of time. A scan converter is a device that will enable you to zoom in on your interface and just project the output window. Alternatively, if you have a dual head graphics card, you can also just project the output window as second screen. Really, to help you more we need more info on your system, but it sounds to me that you want to project Flash movies. If this is the case, just hop over to the "Software reviews" section and check out the specs on what is already availabe, as there's little poinrt in re-inventing the wheel.

These links give some relevant info about having an interface hidden from public view. Hope they help get you started with some of the terms used here.
What is dual head, twinview, second monitor, etc. (http://www.vjcentral.com/show/1572)
What is a scanconverter? (http://www.vjcentral.com/show/62)
Some developers provide no visible interface and force you to remember key commands. This is not a good design in my opinion.
