Anybody using this mixer? Would you recommend it?

essentially a mx50 lite. rock solid, lots of buttons and a nice cross fader, but much more limited effects wise - importantly it doesn't have soft-edge luma or NAM mix mode, and its only two and a half channels as to get the third you have to press 1&2 together which is prone to fuckup.
either a 50 is just to big, or this is a lot cheaper.

....so from that reply is the MX10 a waste of time. I'm just getting started in VJing and have seen this pretty cheap.......would it get me started

nope MX10 is a good first mixer... and very good as a second one if you upgrade later. Its small, has some good FX, uses a slider instead of t-bar which is great, not bad little unit if you can get it cheep. BTW remember to luma mod it to get a good luma key that is better than the one on the MX50... :)

cheers.......think I'll go for it!
I am a total newbie and sorry for my ignorance but how much would you use vj software to replace the mixer in a live show.....can using a laptop with software replace the mixer?

You can with with apps that have video in via say USB, firewire or cap card, but personally I will always go with a hardware mixer @ the end of the chain just incase you crash/bluescreen and you need to emergency bail to another source.
