Thanks to all who voted. As part of the Sunday social, we had a little awards ceremony and it all seems to have gone nicely: the vjc choice awards have given a balanced and (I would say) meritworthy bag, and the awards to people for their contribution to the scene went down well with the assembled crowd. So, the winners were...
VJC Popular Choice: VJ Kit
Pete's Plugins
Resolume
Edirol V4
Vidvox VDMX
VJamm
AVIT UK's Choice for Contribution to VJing
Micha Klein - 'Something along the lines of a lifetime achievement, shall we say lasting charm'
Pete Warden - 'Sheer positivity we feel whenever he's in the UK, and open sourcing his work'
Sebastien Rosset - 'Otherwise known as Exhale, where would we be without the founder of VJCentral'
Innerfield - 'For providing the best visuals at the mass-jam in the form of the supersonic sound system'
Paul Selkirk - 'Not for the hair or the size of the rig, but the way his station seemed to be the final detail of the flight of the navigator setup of the mass-jam'
...so, you had to be for that last one. While there is no order to the awards, its kinda cute that the top three VJC popular choices represented hardware, pc soft and mac soft, and were a decent margin above the others. Also, while the V4 had most overall votes, the two software mixers received more individual first choices. As for the Avit UK's choices, they are stated as subjective to our perspective of this scene, and it is hoped that other organisers will be free to award those who seem appropriate to them/their location. Making this process more transparent and democratic is definately a priority if the idea of awards is to continue - and, personally, i think they should; the most vocal objectors to the awards in the online debate enjoyed the ceremony and i think saw the spirit with which they were intended.
