We need a name!

OK people, we need a name for the gig! I hope that all the finest brains of VJC will be able to help us brainstorm on the issue, even those who live too far away to make the leeds gig... Remember that the idea is to make this event a regular, worldwide one, so it may be in your city one day!

The truth is that the words "VJCentral gig" just aren't marketable at all, and besides most people there will not be VJs so won't really care about VJCentral. We will still have plenty of other ways to show that this is a VJCentral project, for example by putting on the subtitle something like "a VJCentral.com event".

Here are IMO some importants points about the name: it must be broad enough to include A/V acts & video artist who don't necessarily work in the club scene, while still showing a strong focus on the visual part. The name of the ocean gig ("VJ") was pretty broad for this, although some people might associate this with the club scene only. The main problem I find with the "VJ" name is that it was too generic, it's just not a name you remember because it's used too often.

Okay here are some of my initial ideas of what could be good. I personnaly really digged the word 'Fusion' because I see 3 kinds of fusions: The whole goal of "VJing" seems to be a fusion of senses (audio / visual), to give the spectator a full sensual experience.
Since it's still a VJCentral gig, another goal is that VJ meet and inspire each other, which can be compared to a fusion.
It's also the fusion between the artists and the spectators since a lot of people here seem to be interested in interactive installation, etc (I think hama suggested we make it the theme of the gig)
Unfortunately the word fusion is a bit too used in music and it would probably confuse people a lot, but maybe we can find another word to put with it (I thought about Fusion + Vision = Vusion but this word is aweful!). The words 'mix' or 'merge' could be used too, and maybe some others if you have any idea. Please tell me what oyu think!

Yesterday I couldn't sleep and I also kept on thinking about how cool the name "Open Eyes Festival" could be, with the word Open which is very positive (;)) and Eyes for the visual part and of course that makes you think about the usual "open air festival", so it's an easy-to-remember names. Unfortunatly doing a search on Google it seems that two german festivals are already using this name :( (one film festival and a rock festival). Do you think we could use it or we would have possible trademark troubles?

My vote's for Visuals02. Does exactly what it says on the tin, and I think more people will understand it than 'AV:PA', my second choice.

Projectorama appeals to my inherent sense of bad taste too though, so you may just want to ignore me. :)

well that's why we are focusing on visualizing only our music
right now.

but worse than dj's are IMHO some of our local electronic artists, who think it's enough to put some synths and sequencer on the stage and torture the audience a whole evening with a handful of seqlines and loops.

Personally, I dont think 'VJ Central' is a bad name. Gives a reference to the events origins and a sense of community and of a gathering for VJs and related. otherwise...

Works especially well because people will immediately associate it with WMC (Winter Music Conference in Miami, easily one of the coolest weeklong parties in the world).
