I would like to have a direct video output via Firewire to any firewire video converter box.
Quicktime doesn't have that functionality but audio softwares like Protools and some othet video editing software can give you a firewire video preview.
I wonder if that is possible in a Mac environment at list, beacuse I would like to have a software like Arkaos or Motion Dive and use full resolution clips at 30fps via firewire without the need of getting the latest computer with more video ram. It would be a direct output from the hard drive, it would be a revolutionary option because we could be triggering broadcast quality clips with any kind of computer.
I have a Powerbook G3 with 8MB of video ram and the latest softwares require me to have more video ram, but I'm using Final Cut Pro (no for VJing) and a Sony video converter box and I'm fine with it. Why can not just trigger the clips?
It would save us a lot in equipment and we can have perfect video output quality. I do not know about real time effect processing but we could have the option IF we do not need effect processing.

I know but those are 3 party cheap solutions that does not resolve the problem. I want that function included in to the softwares.
I wrote to Arkaos a few month ago and they told me they were working on video thru a ethernet net work but I just do not care about networking, I think there are priorities in quality to resolve first. We still using pixelated clips and half the resolution and speed. That is the average VJ output.
Dveloper should have their hands on in quality and reliable output using a low cost equipment. For me it is not very whise to take my tower + monitor and keyboard to a place just because I have a Miro Motion card that can do the job. We have powerfull laptops that are not used at their best, that is what I think.

We're working on a version of Grid that will output full rez DV clips via firewire. It won't allow any fx processing, just no latency triggering.
No exact ETA, hopefully around the same time as Grid Pro.
The movie player in VDMXX can also output DV clips directly out the firewire port by using the VOC mode.
Unfortunately we can not offer support for G3's.

just a question and/ or idea:
is it feasable to output via firewire while having thumbnaisl on your monitor? that would be increadably cool on the new g4 ibooks. you could feed your clips into a dedicated fx machine.
I'm doing this @ the moment using the video out on the ibook which sucks bigtime going into vjo on my pc...

Of course I undertand that we have to keep going with technology> I'm about to get 2 12" Powerbooks in the near future and keep just one Pismo.
But would be good to go around things. Actually just triggering the clips at full resolution would help a lot. Many performances do not need all the effects and in such case is inevitable to go and VJing with at list 2 computers and 2 different softwares.
Grid would be and excellent software to work doing visuals with rock bands for example. With a rock badn you would have an exclusive set of images triggered at certain cue. But that would mean that the video quality have to be the best possible.
I would be looking forward for the upgrade for sure.
Thanx
