well i've been in contact with the corn x via lisa from sid fox and at the moment, i've been informed that they have a night planed for the weekend we want but there has been talk of a colaberation of some form, agin i'm looking in to this and will post soon, but i would be interested in what people think about the concept, i think the genral talk is of us haveing the day and earley eve and then colaberate on the night time gig or poss colaberate more on the early eve side as well up in the air , i personaly see pros and cons

pro:
more audience, soundsystem and dj's already there

con:
- right now only one soundsystem on two floors i guess
- danger of being absorbed into this event, so ppl
might not realise that europe's finest are stimulating their
optical nerves :)

furthermore:
- we need to get to terms with the residents to cover our
expenses

i personally think a collaboration for the 'club night' is the way forward. i don't know whether this specific example is right or not, but if we are to get a maximum of random punters (and their $$) through the door at a minimum of risk to ourselves (who have little $$) then teaming up with an existing club night would be ideal:

guaranteed crowd of club's regulars
existing reputation and marketing base

basically, i think if we're organising a whole day of cool vj stuff we don't need to have the hassle of sorting out a successful club night on top - the two take very different approaches methinks.

the main reason i think we should go this route, is that promoters are our direct market, and club punters the end market, so i think it is a positive thing to work with them to open their eyes up to what can be done in the future, rather than saying 'we're vjs and we can do it better than you', despite the fact that we have little experience promoting.

make sense? what do people think?

I agree, if the film festival can give us the space to do the workshop / conference / installation part during the day/evening, then finishing the gig on a club would be alright and would much help avoid this to become a financial disaster. Besides the club part would be the most difficult to organize, to setup a sound system, the bar, etc. It depends on the clubs in Leeds though. Unjulation, you said you'd take pictures of the clubs??

well i'v just come from my meeting with technique (mostwanted) i'ts nothing to do with the record label etc, but have a prety good reputation and are very nice people as i found out today, anyway i'm ramberling the up shot of all this is yes they are up for a colaberation, it sounds like it's brakebeat style, let me know how you feel about this, personaly i dont mind being a bit of a musical whore :)
the only problem with all this is day time venue light over spill, it's not the darkest place in the world so we are goiung to have to think carefuly about this
but it all sounds good this end

yes, that could be good vandetti :) i was supposed to do the website with spark but both of us seem busy. maybe we can collaborate, because we already had a good idea of what to do. i'll add you to the phpcollab script right now.

spark, have you registered the domain name? it's getting quite urgent. i'm going to register it myself if it's not done within 1-2 days.

hi hi, the domain has registered fine.

ex - i can either take your server's IP address or transfer the name servers.

vandetti - all input is cool, esp from people with time on their hands! i'm currently halfway through a run of a play at the edinburgh fringe festival, and its been a 24/7 thing so far... no time! probably the first task is to have a crack at the logo...

OK here goes as I am in the UK. I thought I will give my support for it.

Now I think it you lot might lynch me if I set milkdrop running and walk off to the bar for an hour so maybe this anyother VJ out there want to do something with me.

What I am thinking is running Milkdrop as a background scene all the time and another traditional VJ can put there stuff over the top. But it could be anything.

Anyone interested. Even if you are new to the scene I don't mind.

Yeah well....I've just been ploddin on with my own thang and been on the sidelines of this and other forums watching them coalesce into something that I?ve pushed for over the years for myself. I really wanna meet some faces and paint some light.
Dunno where to start really?.. I?m London based and can offer varied creative and production skills, I have some kinda experience. I started in the Hacienda, other examples: Warp Experience, Fabric and London Calling, live.rel.nl. I am playing Vectors next week and then off to Samothraki Dance Festival.
I play live or midi triggered. My usual is a lonesome 6 hour mix but at the moment I?ve been on stage with The Egg. I?ll mix to anything as long as it?s loud.
So?I?m sure you guys have it all in hand, but?.Any tangible details of the VJC weekend available and a provisional agenda to view for those joining now to get up to speed? I feel that until venues are really sorted, any funding is stalled and time is nigh. I know a few people on that score so I will feel about. A list of any jobs need doin now? Keep missin the chats, did you make some executive decisions?
:D

Just spoke to Alice @ technique regarding who/what/where music wise & it all sounds grand (if u like breaks that is):-

in no particular order (& i'm sure there are others playing) between 10 & 4am (with a later license applied for):

Freq Nasty
Drummattic Twins
Stanton Warriors
Rennie Pilgrim
Meat Katie

We put Freq on ourselves a couple of months ago & he rocked it. Hard breaks & big bass - fave moment - public nme acappella over one of his breaks/bass combo. fat.

Technique (the club night we're collobaroting with) has been going for 2 yrs, is mostly breaks (if u hadn;t guessed) & they've got quite a good profile wi' the press etc - they've already got mixmag & jockeyslut comming down to do a feature. lovely.

I'm getting a full press blurb from them this eve so more info as & when,,,,,,,,,
