open sourcing for research, testing and play purposes is one clear embracement of future digital work and should be encouraged in my book.
someone from vjforums should e mail them to say thanks and that some of us will be downloading files for creative usage within the global community

As usual, my role as Mix Content forum host requires me to point out the following notice on the open video site:
The Open Video repository provides video clips from a variety of sources, especially various video programs obtained from U.S. government agencies such as the U.S. Records and Archives Administration and NASA. Although the government agency videos were produced with public funds and are freely available from the Archives, no copyright clearance has been obtained for audio or video elements in these productions. We encourage researchers to use the data under fair use for research purposes. Those wishing to use these video clips in any commercial enterprise must bear the burden of obtaining copyright clearances.

dear dan
concerning copyright control:
in this case the internet copyright law is very different depending in what country u live
1)currently in europe its much more open. means that u can use almoust everything as source material if the result that u produce differs from the original in an amount so that u cant see any relation to its original.
2)u cant be claimed for anything u download cause the copyright law is only offending those who offer the download (here it goes back to the "founder" of a download/crack/whatever)
3)
nice greetings

Before anyone jumps on mikes claims about European copyright laws, please take the issue up in the legal and ethical forum rather than here please.
The only thing I would say is that anyone who is worried about copyright infringement should check out the laws for themselves.
