Hey everyone, I'm trying to get into PC based video mixing. Hardware wise I plan on using a Matrox G550 or G450 video card. The reason I chose it was for its dual monitor output and its ability to zoom/scale. The computer I'll be running everything off of is a 1 gb pc with 512 mb of ram. I think this should satisfy most processing needs. In the very near future, I'll add a dvd drive as to be able to rip clips and be able to use dvd and video cd. I also have a voodoo tv, a capture and s-video out card, so that I can capture some analog sources. I have a 60 GB harddrive and two cdrw burners so that should suffice storage wise. When it comes to software I have the following:
Adobe Aftereffects and Premiere, neither or which I've used yet.
Sonic Foundry Vegas, which I'm pretty fluent in and would use to edit my video cd and dvd and analog clips before mixing them. Visual Jockey, which I've been playing around with but suck at.
and Artmatic Pro which I also don't know how to use.
What I want to be able to do is generate realtime sound activated eye candy and mix it live with video clips from dvd, analog sources, or video cds, or from my hard drive. I figured I could use the artmatic pro and visual jockey to generate the eye candy and vegas to edit my clips. What I was unsure about it a program I could use to mix my pre-obtained clips with the eyecandy. I may already have the ability to do so in one of the above mentioned programs and I just haven't come across it yet. Any input on what I should get would be of great help
