video sample library manager

ok,
i started to sample those internet archive movies and its gonna be A LOT of samples, so i was wondering if some1 knows a good FREEWARE tool to catalogize video samples...

what i would like it to do:
- 1 click scan all videos in directoy...
- make X amount pictures from the videos in the db...
- preserve file URLs so i can drag'n'drop direct from db...

ps. if i find 1, post follows...

It's shareware... but try this... also look on google for WGET

WGET downloads a webpage or link from a page.. WGET -r recursively follows all links, so using WGET -r you can pretty easily mirror a site whilst you sleep.

Windows XP does this automatically... but it will take time to generate all the previews.

Neither of these solutions address what HuoLong is addressing. He basically want a program that helps him quickly scan his library of videos using thumnails and metadata. This is a very hot topic in the corporate digital media asset management market. I was previously working with a company called Convera, that was building tools very much like what HuoLong wants. Basically the system allowed the user to capture video. During the capture process the system could take thumbnail snapshots at regular intervals or at scene transitions. These thumnails could then be visually searched using some algorithms.

As far as I know systems like this are still very expensive ($30,000+) but there may be some open source asset management projects out there. I will keep my eyes open...

Our team (4 programmers) is working on this as we "speak"

Briefly, it's going to be a TeraByte Media Server specifically for VJ's and digital video artists. All written in PHP, with a PERL back end.

hmm, as this is an easy task, isn't there any SMALL soft for it ?

what i only need is that it scans a CD for AVI files and takes 1 screen shot @ position X of every video and saves it on hd.

there is allways only 1 scene in my video samples so i need to capture only 1 frame, but not allways the 1st because they may have fadeins...

sadly i cant no high programming language so i give a try with director...

I would be interested too in such a software... I currently use Advanced Disk Catalog (http://www.elcomsoft.com/adc.html) but it only saves the file name and an optional description. Not really useful for video samples :( I wish they would upgrade their software and add support for thumbnails / screenshots!

Dave from Audiovizualizers uses a program to do that exact thing. He has frames from all of his movies published on the site and i doubt he sat down and save each one manually.

Interestingly enough,

The big online database of samples is sort of interesting, but ultimately somewhat counterproductive... because with the current chaotic individual use of samples by vJs there isn't really much of a copyright issue. Putting together a giant searchable database online is going to draw attention, and will probably cause a lot of the sample sources to withdraw their content from public domain.

There's already copyrighted material up on there, I'm curious to see how long the hangtime is before it has to disappear.
