I am new in theory to vj -ing but am currently lovin it !!!

my question is - how do i sync two laptops together ??

they are both running a movie each and are outputed to seperate projectors respectively.. for a basic two screen show.

but i not sure want software i should use to play the movie files (done in after-efx and premiere) so that i can link the two of them so they run in strict time with the audio being produced by the master of the two...

you could take any program that uses MIDI to trigger videos and install it on both laps and trigger the both with 1 midi keyboard...

This won`t do for more than a minute i think. Ever tried to start 2 audio proggis (Like Reason etc.) by one start signal over midi? At the beginning all works fine, but then.... it just looses sync.

But for shorter clips this should be ok.

The right way to do this would be with SMPTE or VTSI(sp?) or that DV time code. But as to how to do this with AVI players I'm at a lost sorry...:sad:
Oh wait...use ACID or some other kind of player that uses time code and have one be the master and the other the slave and you are :alien:

If you've got two projectors and two laptops, you might as well be projecting something different on the second one.

Otherwise, just split your output to both projectors, and save a laptop.

yeh this is the question (i think)
he wants 2 laptops with diffrent images going to each projector but for them to be synced

itsw very hard to do with computers - you can do this very easaly 2 editing vcrs + an edit controler

you could use 2 bits of music software that allow video playback like cubase and run one as master one as slave using midi timecode

or one desktop with 2 graphics cards and VJamm2 running both avi files triggered at the same time from the keyboard or midi

i recon you'll get away with just running 2 computers with any software that can midi trigger an avi as long as you don't use the sound from both the computers nobody will notice the slight drift in sync from start to end
