Just had someone contact me through avit looking for people to contribute to a new publication. So i thought i`d offer it up to the forums.
Some articles about VJC and AVIT worldwide would be nice-
*wink *wink
Hello there,
We?re due to launch a new magazine called Blowback ? promotional eithos gubbins attached.
It?s going to have plenty image and visuals based space in the magazine promoting art and VJ events and we are looking for people actually involved in the scene to wax lyrical about it. In addition to listing any events that you feel should be mentioned we also want to commission a feature.
I?ve attached a doc about writing style but basically what we want is a passionate personal opinion ? no previous experience or authority necessary.
Ideas that we?ve had are as follows.
Visuals vs the art scene (being taken ?seriously? as visual artist ? getting the credits UR due - Gridio NESTA WARP AV festivals, slams, DIY and Retrospectives ? music videos etc)
2. The rise of the VJ (the resolution will be televised! DV and Mixers - new technology ? people involved in the scene ? why it?s going to be the next big thing.)
3. Visual stimulation (something about VJs working a crowd in the same way DJs do ? mixing breakdowns and other skills involved to get a night for ears and eyes - body and mind etc )
4. Open to suggestions...
Please feel free to pass this all on to anyone. If you want to get involved at any level then please phone or send me contact e-mail etc...

Give us a Blow?.
Blowback rides the flipside. Blowback is B5. Blowback is glossy and bossy. Blowback is 28,000 copies. Blowback is 17 cities. Blowback is free to those that want it.
Blowback is canvas for an artist, decks to a DJ, celluloid to a director, blueprints for a designer, catwalk for a model, word for a writer, the thoughts of the thinkers.
Blowback is eccentric and eclectic. Blowback is quirky. Blowback is smirky. Blowback is flirty, but seldom flighty.
Blowback is a love drug. Blowback is sex, it snowballs, an unspeakable act. Blowback is all that. Blowback is unexpected action, militant with built in passion. Left behind after the explosion. Blowback.
Blowback is about experience. Blowback helps you breathe more easily.
Blow your own?.

Size: B5 80 pages
Time: October
Ed Dead: 14 September
Destination: Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Edinburgh, Exeter, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Sheffield, Wolverhampton.
Ingredients: A hot pot of art, fashion, independent music, smart images, DJ?s, VJ?s, film, crap modifier, video, web, more E numbers than a family bag of skittles and more calories than a black poo Guinness session.
Style
As of yet not one word has been written for blowback ?the pilot issue? so I thought it be best to get some ground rules down about style.
Ethos
As all those obscure press releases and weird websites will tell you, blowback means a lot of things. This suits us just fine because we want the mag to be a lot of things covering as many artistic fields as possible. We particularly want people who have more than one interest and people who like playing with new things such as websites or music videos. As a writer your two aims are to get excited about something and then get everyone else excited about it.
Reviews
A big blowback thing, therefore, is getting a personal response. Reviews is a good way to do this. We want a group of people for each section a whole host of voices, giving their opinion. The only restriction would be, that ideally these voices should sound different - if they didn?t just tow party line. The only restriction we have to impose is because we want to know what it looks like before hand, WORD COUNTS MUST BE ADHERRED TO!
Generally writing
The general essence is that whatever wonderful people you meet or whatever new piece of music or film you experience, you relate (or blowback) said experience with the same passion.
Their music or visual style should actually, in some way or other, dictate the style of the piece. There is free stylistic range to split it into sub-headers and just break it up poetically. Writing conventions, grammar and suchlike, are not important. We have spell checks and as long as it makes conversational sense it?s fine. The piece can riff on one particular theme and this can be the complete article.
Overall it has to be observant, full o? beans* and funny: drawing parallels, making links and inspiring readers.
* Full o? beans is fine but cut down on the wind factor ? the visual element of the mag is very important. There is space for the writing and space for the big pic and WORD COUNTS MUST BE ADHERED TO!
Interviews
As I say we?re looking for angles: windows into people. We?re going to appreciate face to face interviews more because of their immediacy and personal interaction. Also a good choice of location is a good talking point for the interview and a good reading point for the reader!
When writing, the scene has to be set early and regardless of where it is, it has to say something about where the artists are at. It is not important to capture biography details or introduce an artist. If it?s interesting record the act of getting the story.
People
It is our wish that different sections aim to be forum based. We want you to make editorial suggestions and recommendations.
If you have anything to add / criticize about to this then please write back?
