I sure do...I used to be a film student and learned to rely on myself as the guy who would always show up, and never ask questions about doing any crazy thing I requested.

Yeah I'm with Trotsky ;) I use myself for research footage- no starring shots just yet. I find ex boyfriends are quite reliable people to shoot you- and any nude shots are taken in a non pervy stylee. But maybe that's just my ex ....... :drums:

I have been thinking about it the last days. I am happy to know other people think about it too!!!
It's customization to the maximum level!!! Nobody will have the same footage never!!! :jump2:

I reckon that could be genuinly distressing!:scared:  :censored:
neway i never use myself...i always end up being too critical and not creative enough. Self Esteem issues is assume.:jump: And i always feel self concious getting someone else to film me...(plus ive got lots of actor friends so they're more than happy to do it for ):D

Do it. Who else can you bully 100% of the time? Controlling every aspect is the eventual goal (not necessarily DOing every aspect yourself, though). I came out of the glam clubkid scene so putting on outfits and acting like an idiot is nothing new. Vodka helps.
What you need is lighting (lots and lots of lighting) and instead of a tri-pod use a wall plate with a standard lighting mount:

This one is made by Avenger and retails around $12. Screw it in the wall and save floor space. There are a thousand and one different accessories to get this to support your camera: elbows, hotshoes, flexi-arms, etc. The whole mount is probably less than a medium priced tri-pod. The camera store is your friend. Never be afraid to think "high end" when it comes to production and setting up your studio. My studio lights are 8ft flourescent fixtures I scavanged from an abandoned department store.
You just have to get over the self concious-thing. It isn't worth it. What, your pride is holding you back? Uh-uh. If you honestly look lousy on camera then find some artsy performer types and trade footage for a videoshoot. That's how I got the belly dancer.

When I finally get round to doing something Im happy with, I may well use myself in there. It will be in the context of making a fool of myself, not hard to do. Still so far inhibition has prevented me from posting that video of me using my mouth to make crap synth noises, so there appear to be some embarresment issues to overcome first.

I was thinking I'd hook up a monitor so i could see what I was video taping(at least for ref. purposes).. sure would suck to think u caught something good to find out it's the top of your head... hrm... Lighting.. that's for sure.. most important thing.. always something to spend more $$ on.. thanks for the tips

We did some experimenting last Friday with a dv cam, V4 and TZT using ourselves a content - got blinding results which have spurred us into designing some cool ideas for an upcoming gig.
So, in the actual gig, it would be the dj as the main actor !

i wasnt being particularly serious but i do find that i just am never happy with it my own shooting. I generally work with artsy performer friends because they always are up for the publicity.

Yeah, it's hard to watch yourself at first. All you see is you and not the footage possibilities. But as I've done it more it's gotten easier. It is a lot less work to just get someone else (who is use to performing) to come in and do it though. Then you are just seeing footage and not making notes on what not to do next time.... I've found that cutting off my head helps alot to make me feel like more of just a "body" than as if I'm making a short music video about myself....

hey everyone! (been w/out Inet for two weeks!!!! going MAD!!)
kewel thread.. i like the fact that vjs are on the screen. thats dope. dancing, keyed and even nude (really Blunt??)..... but i was wondering.... y'know all those DMC championship videos, like where you see Qbert and mixmastermike scratching? well, i've shot some djs on bluescreen and am now kicking myself for not shooting myself mixing (there's always next time). if its fun to watch a turntablist mixing, s'gotta be as much fun to watch any and all of you while you are doing the thing that makes my eyeballs sooo happy....
so i have been wondering if anyone out there uses themselves in their viusuals in this way
