Aphex Twin... hands down the kookiest, mixed up musical sets I've ever heard.... would be a challenge to match his sonic mania. :) ....maybe Venetian Snares... ?

i'd love to do an old school hardcore night with acen playing live, or an acid house night with, well, anyone really.. frankie knuckles, larry levan, mike pickering, guy called gerald etc..
oh, if they didn't have it sorted so well for their music, Kraftwerk would have to be top of my list, and pink floyd..

Ive already realised one of my vj ambitions, when i vjed for steve hillage :)

pink floyd cos they spend a fortune on production and give u artistic free reign...other than that i'd be more excited by a "where" opportunity than a "with whom"......glaciers would be good.....i used to build walls out of ice cubes to project on... a glacier would last longer.......or that ice festival in japan....name now forgotten.....

we were doing visuals at the glade at glastonbury on the sunday night when square pusher was playing. Apparently he specifically asked for all lighting and visuals to be turned off! - they wanted to play in the dark!?
that same night i actually got to play with one of my all time heroes raja ram who was doing a DJ set after his live set with shpongle. He played a storming set too, Calve from inside-us-all actually broke his sandles dancing whilst VJ'ing.
The other two acts we've always wanted to play with are GMS [growling mad scientists] and Infected Mushroom. And I just took a booking to play with both of them in October & November.

I don't realy have a wish list, anyone at the top of their art form, as long as they (dj's/musicians) respect you as an artist and not look down on you just because youre not pumping out music.

you've allready hit all my IDM favorites ;-)
I'd choose to VJ for my favorite rock, "the Doors", but using a full digital VJ rig teleported back to 1969 ;)
re: Boards of Canada - great! I've read they were originally a large collective including film loops and video artists (which is why they sample so many educational films! and got that name.) Never had the chance to see them, hear it's rare.
re: Squarepusher - No visuals when I saw him in LA (but before, a guy was running touch with Luke Vibert - one of you?)
all he had were strobing lights. wonder why?
1. he's probably obsessive about his music (all that amazing complexity!) and didn't want any external elements?
2. or wanted people to watch him play the 6 string jazz bass?
or 3. maybe it was about "Photic Driving"? ;) where the brainwaves are altered, even synched to music by flashes of bright light?

Gee, lots of varied responses, and I'm surprised a lot of them aren't DJs, but performance artists. I haven't had the opportunity to play across any performers other than house/techno DJs, and I never thought about where I would head if house fell of the earth as fast as disco...
It'd be interesting to find out what other performers would perceive to be a suitable visual accompaniment outside of a 4-minute music video.
Like one had mentioned John Coltraine...it would have been a real challenge to visualize all of the moods and nuances that came out in his solos. Take it to a level like Ornette Coleman and it leads me to believe that I'd have to have an infinite arsenal of moving pictures at my fingertips to cover them all.
So if I strive to do this to push and peak the art, then those opportunities would be the best. But I'd certainly take a gig with Mu-ziq.
