Has anyone turned a TiVo box - basically a Linux box - into a video player?
From what I make out TiVo has a variable compresion rate MPEG CODEC, saves the data in it's own proprietry format, then allows those clips to be played out.
Usually this is carried out using TiVo software, but if other software is run, the hardware can be used as a cheap decoder/playout device.
It has a serial port to control playout and a network can also be installed for remote control using Telnet.
Is a resource for info. but it's not a finished system.

What are people's thoughts though, would this be a better way of spitting out video than through a mac?
