Hi all,
I'm trying to sort out accomodation options for AVIT, but I need numbers to make progress.
If your going to attend AVIT (wheter your performing, watching or just along for the fun) then please let me know soon if you want me to try and find accomodation for you.
My intention is to reduce the cost for everybody by block booking a hotel.

Hiya Sticks
One of the best accomodation deals I've found is laterooms.co.uk. Great rooms, super cheap. Use it for most of my bookings, when I've gotta do it.

I want to go, but I'm not sure yet.
I first have to figure out, how to get to brighton and how much this will cost me...
Maybe somebody can tell me what would be the cheapest way to get from London Heathrow(LHR) or London City Airport(LCY) to Brighton?!

London has a bunch of airports, some further than others from the centre
City airport is as expected right in the city, but only really used by small aircraft/executive flights
Stanstead Airport is in fact a very long way from london to the norht and you should avoid flying there at all costs as the train/bus to get from the airport will prolly cost you as much as your flight
Heathrow airport is the largest and most commonly used airport, from there you can easily get a train to brighton.
Gatwick though is the preferable airport for coming to avit, as its actually closer to brighton than it is to london.
as far as travelling from the airport to brighton, bus and train are pretty much the same i think, the bus will be slightly chaeper but more cramped, run less often

The problem is, that there are no direct flights from Frankfurt/Germany to Gatwick. Only with change at Luxembourg.
And these Flights cost about 500 EUR ... :(
the only Airports to fly direct to are Haethrow & City Airport...

from germany, why not just drive or take the train??? It's prolly an 8 hour or so drive, right?

i don't have an own car, but that isn't the problem, i work for a car rental company, so i could get a car cheaply
the point is, that the ferry is much more expensive than a flight! but as i said, there are no flights directly to brighton or gatwick.
And the whole track by train is to expensive anyway...
I will fly from frankfurt to heathrow and rent a car there, I think...

You can get a coach directly from Heatrow to Gatwick, and a short train journey from Gatwick to Brighton.

(sorry, I'm a silly american, I prolly don't have a clue what I'm saying)

you go on a train with your car and its way more expensive than flying

robot it took me a few seconds to understand that and i knew what you meant
for the amerikans
the channel tunnel is a rail only tunnel, so you have to drive your car onto this special train to go through, which costs a lot

see if you can fly to luton - its a ryanair style airport and using the thameslink trains its direct from the airport to brighton.
oh, might be called 'london luton', and thameslink is www.thameslink.co.uk
btw, i've just checked nationalrail.co.uk and a single from london to brighton is UKP12, and an open return is UKP25. i'd check the actual route you want to do tho, ie from the airport to brighton.

Hi,
Sorry for lack of posting of late - very very busy.
I'm compiling a "help for travellers to AVIT" info document at the moment and will be publishing it on here Wednesday afternoon.
Also, still waiting for some answers / prices from official bodies in Brighton - more news as I have it.
In the meantime - please please please can people let me know if they are looking for accomodation during AVIT - the bigger the numbers the better deal I can get for us all.
:-)

Paul, I could be talking rubbish - but Shoreham Airport near Brighton does a few small European flights doesn't it....?
Stanstead is a good choice if you're going to London (I generally try to fly from there if poss) - good cheap flights to/from most of Europe and the train is about 15 pounds and takes half an hour to 40 mins to London (but I drive it usually as it's even quicker).
Luton Airport is the other low-cost airline airport - similar distance to London as Stanstead.
If poss, Paul is right though - Gatwick is the best choice, but flights there usually cost more.
Eurostar passenger train (Paris - London) is cheap if you book well ahead but then it depends on the train fare to Paris from where ever you are. Flying is probably a much better option, Ryan Air or Easy Jet etc...

Remember Easyjet now fly to gatwick airport from spain, france, italy, switzerland & the nertherlands.
It's then an easy 30min train journey to brighton.
Look forward to meeting everyone in brighton...it's shaping up to be a fantastic festival :jump:

Really sorry everybody but my travel's info document isn't ready and I'm out now until Sunday doing gig's (sorry but work get's in the way of AVIT duties sometimes :o :D   :) ).
I am desperately trying to build a list of what who wants accomdation for which nights to tie down the numbers. I have some special rates promised by decent hotels in Brighton for AVIT, but they all start at ?35 per person per night
Elbowsedit: removed email address that was out of date. For accommodation requests please email accommodation@avit.info cheers :)
The more people I can block book a hotel for the cheaper it is for all of us. I'm currently working on 30 rooms per night.... but it's guess work without YOUR help.
In the meantime the official information site for Brighton is
Visit Brigthon (http://www.visitbrighton.com)
There is a lot of information on this site about how to get to Brighton etc etc.

Stickman has stepped down from the accomodation role
if you email your travel plans and accomodation needs to
accommodation@avit.info someone will sort you

I slightly edited reds post above to change the email address. This is because accommodation is one of those words its easy to spell differently, sometimes people type one c, sometimes one m, and this can obviously cause nightmares with email.
So anyway the accommodation@avit.info address is typo-immune because we've setup 4 varieties of it to work.
Accommodation has proved one of the trickier elements of AVIT to get sorted as quickly as we would have liked, so apologies to people who havent heard from us about this yet and might be getting anxious. It is in hand and we'll be in touch soon :)

Hi, I requested an assistance for the accomodation and I am a bit concerned about it now. I am leaving to London on 22nd from New York. Since I have never been there I have no idea how icompetitive it is to book hotels in last minute. Can we still find hotels there? I guess I am just being nervous before the travel, in any case please keep us posted!
Thank you!

Depending on your budget there are B&Bs & hostels that should be available without booking.
If you've requested that avit helps with accommodation..it's being sorted this week :D

There is a 3 star hotel in Brighton called the 'Quality Hotel' (44) 127 322 0033 which has double rooms for around ?75 per night (some cheaper-some more expensive) or you can check this website
http://tourism.brighton.co.uk/
Avit core are currently sorting the budgets for booking some flats in the centre of Brighton, but this will mean some peeps sharing a bed!! or sleeping on the floor. If this will be a problem it is best to go through the website above for a cheap B&B etc.

Also, for those of you on a budget that haven't yet booked accommodation...there is brighton backpackers (http://www.brightonbackpackers.com) which don't accept bookings in advance, & if you arrive wed-friday you should have no problem getting a room :jump2:
