Ashpool (website) (http://www.ashpoolmusic.com) is doing two shows at Pete's 881 club in San Rafael about 15 minutes from the golden gate bridge. Pete's is a good setup for visuals with an easy backdrop to fly a screen and a place to bungee the projector. I'll be trying out a video dimmer thingy that I'll mount somewhere onstage so I can cut the video out between songs. The source material is 100% pure original material off a VHS. I think more live bands should incorporate visuals but it's so rare that a local band makes any money on a gig in the first place. Since I'm doing my own visuals I don't mind getting stiffed.
Ashpool is looking to keep a vj or visuals artist on retainer for shows where projections are feasible. We could provide the projector and even VCR's and a mixer. Our shows last just over 1 hour and we would pay, probably in the 20-50 dollar range depending on the venue. A minimum of setup and break-down would be required and you'd be home before 2AM. We'd also kick down drink tickets and/or any other perks we might be getting. You could use your own material plus we have our own vast library of fun footage to mix with. Anyway, they're both Saturday nights, so if you're not doing a gig or working to land a gig someplace big, why not check out one of San Francisco's premier bands with a killer lightshow and perhaps see if you would be interested in becoming our future LD/VJ.
July 6th at 9PM go to the Ashpool website and click the "live" link for the location, map, directions. I think the cover is 7 dollars, maybe 5 I'd have to double-check.
We;re also playing August 10th. for music samples check out the Ashpool mp3.com site (http://www.mp3.com/ashpool)
If you can make it, I suspect you will be impressed.
Cheers
