were gonna have one room set aside to have a rolling program of screenings ...

so what sort of things would ppl like to see?
not just mixes but also films/documentaries that relate to visuals,
what have ppl got available/stashed away, ie does anyone have a copy of that excellent ITV documentary on mandelbrot and the discovery of fractals from the early 90's ?
that sort of thing ?

I'm a bit behind... what are you talking about? is there any conference, when, where?

If is around NY I can go and I can give a MIDI clinic for VJs :)

I can propose to screen VJ Culture 01,02 and 03 , with the selected VJs' permission...

it could b nice to have diferent Avit participants show-reels on scroll,
any "older" Avit battles vids / dvd documentations,
& footage like anyones Veto line, but of other VJ's as well, who runs such a regular lines, mayb like Holly's Eyewash (from other cuntries outside the UK), even if she can't make it to Avit UK!

What do you think?

At Sonar I saw

The Future Is Not What It Used To Be.
Dir.: Mika Taanila. 52 min.
In Finish, subtitles in English.

" The offspring of marinettian futurism and the unacknowledged father of gibsonian cyberpunk, the Finn Erkki Kurenniemi has merged cinema, computer science, robotics and art in a radical and fruitful attempt to find the technological essence of the human soul. "

Which although mainly about early computers and music also includes so early visuals, but more importantly is a very interesting historical document. This guy started making computer art/music in the late 50's with computers built by himself at University, it was fascinating to see the conection running from where he started to where we (and he, hes still doing stuff) are now.
The dvd aparently has archived performances on it as well, If it cant be screened here i advise you check it out anyway, it was the most inspiring thing I saw at sonar!!

in terms of some of the artists you mentioned chk:

iotacenter (http://iotacenter.org)

the org founded by Larry Cuba that distributes programs called Kinetica, ie Kinetica 4 (http://www.kinetica.org/K4/) which may be of specific interest. these progs can be booked/rented/shown. for nfo contact ckeefer@iotacenter.org

++

The Video Data Bank (http://www.vdb.org/)

the org founded by Phil Morton + shaped/operated by Kate Horsfield (http://www.criticalartware.net/previous_versions/1.2.4/application-support/resources/khlf/). Kate Horsfield, Christine Hill + Maria Troy put together Surveying the First Decade (http://www.vdb.org/packages/survey/survey.html), an anthology of early vid art, which includes Program 5: Performance of Video Imaging Tools (http://www.vdb.org/packages/survey/vol2pro5.html). these tapes are usually for sale rather than rental, but if AVIT org'ers were to contact/explain/propose a screening they (VDB) might be interested in co-presention.

also, individual artists, such as Craig Baldwin (http://www.othercinema.com/), might be interested if contacted directly.
hope that helps.
would be fantastic to show works such as these.

just re-read "how to b original" thread
& found WellRedMan idea of watching Koyanisqatzi (however u write it) remixes....

"ive just daydreamed about a really nice ehibition where theres loads of screens all playing different remixes of the film, but all tied to the same audio"

for an abused film by most vj's - or may i say all? maybe we should watch it with respect this time
together w pavanisqatzi, baraka, & the such ;)
