Hi.

I'm very much involved in theatre, presentation work and church events, which are all good uses for a vision mixer... but we all know what they're really for.

This saturday (and the whole week following) I'm running tech for a kids holiday camp and need keying facilities (tried writing software but it's taking too long) so anyone who can sell me a Vision Mixer before then will have my gratitude.

Even if I can't get a mixer for saturday then I will be looking to get one for use in the Autumn.

I've got lots of experience on MX-50's but they are out of my price range. I'm looking for something smaller yet still good at keying. Must have 2+ channel TBC and be in good working order (prefer it to have all buttons and connectors working). Must have S-Video in/out.

Certainly willing to pay EUR 600 / GBP 400 for right product, less or more depending on equipment offered.

People with MX10 need not apply; 1 bit superimpose is not what I considder decent chromakey. Yes, I know they are useful for other things. I just don't want to have to buy a seperate keying unit.

Thanks,
Alan Geering

a Videonics MX1 might be what you're looking for?

Hmmmm what about a MODDED MX10, keying is pretty kick ass and is MORE ajustable than the MX50 key with both hi and low cuttoffs

Yes, I've studied the Videonics MX-1 and although I've never used anything non-panasonic before I'm sure I can adjust.

MX-1, as you say is certainly a good solution to my current problem.

I have one question abotu it that no-one has answered yet. It claims 2 channel TBC... yet displays all outputs on one screen. Should it not need to sync all channels to do this?? Or does it only show one at a time?

Maybe I should post this question elsewhaere some other time.

Thanks,
Alan Geering

Alan, the preview screen does show all 4 inputs on the preview screen @ once, but the images are buffered and are lagged so as to allow them to all be displayed without TBCing each one

That's what I've heard... but I've not ever managed to find one yet!!

I've used mainly MX-50

You are really willing to say it's better at keying than the MX-50? That's a bold claim. To get better than the 50 I've usually gone to external keyers.

can you give me a link to a page describing the mod?

Thanks,
ALan Geering

Thanks for that morph, you saved me a sleepless night trying to work out where my logic was going wrong. how big is the lag, are we talking 5/25 of a second, 10/25 of a second, 1 second??

Thanks again for your help.

Alan the link to the mod page is in the links on VJC.

As for better, I mean for a luma key mod you have far more CONTROL than the lumakey on the MX50.... as for quality of final image the MX50 would be a lot better (s-vid paths).

Does anyone have anything they wish to sell. As you see from the first post. This is getting quite urgent.

Thanks,
Alan Geering

Thanks to VJForums, Levlhed & Morph for excellent reviews and advice on my choice.

I eventually did buy a Videonics MX-1 for ?300. It will do everything I need and I'm sure I'll learn to use the menu system (coming from MX-12, 30, 50 this may make for some fun). Thanks Morph for the description of how the preview worked.

To all the good people fo VJ Forums who made offers for their bits of kit. Thanks, much appreciated. For the moment I'm sorted but I may come back to you in a few months (there's a good chance I will be installing AV kit in a few venues).

I'll be posting a few MX-1 Specific questions under hardware so if any experts have answers, please head in that direction.

Thanks,
Alan Geering
