Just curious if any of you guys have gotten ahold of Latham's software and played with it at all. If so, have you seen if it could be useful for any live vj mixing? Curious what all types of output it has and if it could be thrown into a live performance in real time.

My father had bought this software several years ago, I don't have it anymore but I remember it wasn't too sound-responsive, it was rather slow most of the time. I wouldn't use it directly on a gig but I think it could be interesting to record some samples and replay them on other softwares, because the visuals were still interesting.

Yeah i`ve seen people vj with it before, but not for two or three years. It looked like some kind of screen saver app. saving presets in a folder and running but i found most of the visuals to be a bit too busy with bad colours. The guys i saw with it were just keying it over arkaos fractals. Depends on your style to how useful it is i guess.

Hey morph,

don`t be that hard! Perhabs you know it better (i do really believe so...), but this ain`t no reason to comment things this way.

Everybody got to find his own way, and only because you do VJing since 10 years, this doesn`t give you the right to make things bad.

Fractals can, since they are nearly endless big, be very fascinating in some colorful situations of life.

*me shakes his head*...... Meierhans do you want to stop whinging and jumping on the defensive every time I criticize something. Yeah every one should find there own way and fractals are amusing for the first 1 to 2 million times you have to see them but sersiously they get boring for everyone eventually (just like anything) to that point that screensavers and fractals have pretty much become a recuring joke here in the sydney scene. I have my opinions and they are founded on situations and experiences in my life..... I make comments which are all IMHO and I expect them to be taken that way and not have someone sook and whine every time I critique something. As for the right to make things bad, no your right I don't, the public do... YOUR PUBLIC, my PUBLIC, ppl the world over..... I simply try to help ppl avoid some of the cliche pitfalls (like to many factals and random screen saver type stuff) by letting them know whatt ppl (ppl that I have had critique my own material in the past, yes I have made all the these mistakes already so I know what i'm saying) think.

Organic Art the original is very old now, at the time it came out it was something of a wonder for PC's, as a screensaver basically. It was pre-3dFX cards originally and the engine had a few updates for directX etc. I cant remember if Ive even had a go with the deluxe version.

There is a designer option with it that makes it a bit more than just another screensaver, and there are some quite clever formulas at work and some very nice stylish art. But the main point of it is it is based on the art of one person, it was originally intended to be an interactive version of his art.

Anyways, I personally wouldnt use it in a show, but it is an interesting example of pseudo organic lifeform generation on a pC, as was Dancer DNA. I think its a shame the next generation of such apps hasnt appeared yet, although "Organic Sound To Light", the next gen of Organic Art, sounds very interesting but is still in development.

Personal conclusion: Organic Art = Good for chillout room type stuff.

I don`t mind critism - elbows also did so, but in a constructive way.

Its just the sarcasm in your post didn`t like.
Perhabs in some places fractals aren`t worn out?

You look red and friendly on the pic but sometimes you write a little :grrr:

;) ;)

Bah, sarcasm... straight out... either way i'm just telling it like it is. As for where its not worn out... hmmm I guess maybe places that haven't had a psy-trance movement, or places that have just never had video b4.

1. AMAZING SOFTWARE

2. getting pretty old now

i have been using this for years now, and i still love it.
it's not the most original program out there, but you'd be hard pressed to get bored of all the possibilities......

i just wish that some of the controls were able to be assigned to a sound responsive type thing....

infinite variablies, very fast - even on old machines, scales well with new technology, ability to load own textures/backgrounds etc......

sure it's not groundbreaking, but it probably was when it was released, i still like it:)
