Hi all,
just some news to tell about the latest gossip and events...
this thread would perhaps fit better in the VJ event thread,
but it might turn out to be a slightly hot topic
and since I moderate the VJ events thread,
I need a more neutral ground in this context.
Some of you may know already,
but about a month ago I broke my ties with Microchunk,
which was set out to be one of the premium
VJ labels and agencies in the UK.
Major ideology and managerial conflicts drove me
to resign from my position of head of A&R for Microchunk.
In the process we divided the pie of the jobs
which I could walk away with and to ones which was to stay within M.
and they ended up keeping Vectors.
Even though Vectors was my baby long before M supported it,
Initially I was OK with the decision because as a collective,
M could possibly pull more ressources than me as an individual...
But I later found out that they were going to shelve it,
not allow me to use it, but not use it themselves either,
ie just let it die of asphyxiation.
I could'nt let that happen.
but what could I do?
I turned around,
teamed up with a few people (TBC)
and produced another event: VETO
**********
Every 6 weeks in Room 3 at Turmills,
the first one starting on Friday 8 August 2003,
will feature a full-on 5 hour VJ battle.
2 VJs will battle head-to-head (screen-to-screen) for one hour
and the winner stays on to take on the next challenger.
The winner of each individual battle is decided by the audience...
(let the public decide who the is the best VJ, not METRO ;) )
The VJ with the most wins at the end of the night
gets to perform all night, during the next VETO event,
in Turnmills' Room 2.
If you are interested in participating in the first VETO event,
Friday 8 August
please send me an email,
with some details of your work
if I have never seen it yet...
(ie I already know the work of Micheal Heap, Holly, Many-2, eMovie... if you want to participate just tell me)
We are welcoming 6 VJs per event.
All styles are welcome
VJs visiting London are also welcome ...
Turmills is one of the major clubs of London,
along with The End, Fabric, Ministry of Sound...
Turnmills is located at
63 Cleckenwell Road
London EC1 M 5PT
www.turnmills.co.uk
Next VETO events are scheduled on
19 September
31 October

Sorry to hear that vectors is finished before we even got a chance to get down to it.
Sorry also about the situation - sounds pretty raw to kill the night and name without giving you the chance to pick it up.
Glad to hear that you've got a new VJ-focussed night sorted though, and by the sound of it (turnmills!) it's going to push on to bigger and better things in any case.
Vectors is dead! Long live Veto!
Dan.

We'll record some stuff from a live show sometime in the next couple of weeks and get it in the post to you. That way you can see our stuff as it actually is.
Don't like being poked, eh?
How about this?

This post about Vectors has just been brought to my attention - so i've joined the forum to post a reply and help stop disinformation relating to microchunk and a night that i have put so much time, energy, love and effort into.
it is unfortunate that VJ Anyone mistook our silence on the matter for shelving the event rather than carefully considering how to move forward in the best possible way!
we have always and will continue to promote, stage and support live A/V events with the intent of providing needed exposure for talented VJ's in technically and creatively innovative surroundings....Always put on as a labour of love and despite unprofitability (many of you will have been down this road yourselves and know what i'm talking about)
no matter what name we give it - the spirit, teamwork and ethos behind it is what we hope will ultimately shine thru :)
find out for yourselves: join our maliing list or write for info on participating. info@microchunk.com

ps - any questions welcome !

Thank you for your viewpoint on what happened.
I don't think Oli was overly unfair on you though. As for all intents and purposes the event has for the time being stopped.
I hope soon we will see a 'Vectors returns' thread soon then. :)
Welcome to VJ Forums and enjoy your stay. Oh if Todd is still with your team give him a kick as he hasn't posted here for a while.
Oh edit your location please it is obviosuly you are not in Antaricia. :);) Although stranger things have happened................... :D

thanks for the welcome rovestar
but i purposely avoided getting personal so why are you?
if you want to talk about fairness - the post about vectors that opens this thread is the FIRST time i've heard about how microchunk has apprently dealt with the event!
it may have been Anyone's baby - but we have financially backed, resourced, and promoted it for a year, taking losses along the way.
He hasn't even bothered to speak to me directly, his partner in the event, and instead listened to and posted rumours.
You can't pass an event around like a football - especially when there are financial debts involved.
I will say no more as it seems too easy to get drawn into a political debate on this forum. It's obvious that Oli has made a home here for some time and has taken the liberty to speak for microchunk. What is the point of refuting him? the true story cannot be accessed online in snippets. but it does have a way of coming out and biting back when u least expect it.
i'll be back with event updates , and keep things on your forum pleasant by avoiding the temptation to moan about the lies told about my company.
let's let good work speak for itself.
peace x

I didn't think I was being personal to be honest.
My opening line was thanking you for your side of the story.
and I said that Oli didn't say anything out of order about microchunk.
Maybe a post here about why the event was stoppping at the time would have been good that way no 'misinformation' could have been spread.
BUt I have said elsewhere that I do not want to see a slagging off of each other on these boards. VJF is not the place for that. Taking no-ones 'side' here.
