I'm thinking to get into the VJ buisness.
I'm looking for good setup for a psycedalic style show (aimed for outdoor trance raves..), consist of mainly 3D renderings (real time and pre-rendered).
I was thinking about building a system with two desktops running Visual Jockey R3 and a video mixer.
Are there other softwares I should consider?
Should I run the same software on the two computers?
Can i do it with only one computer?
I'll be happy for your help

These days I'm getting the feeling that one laptop running resolume with two usb capture thingys, a laptop running visualjockey R3, and a dvd player might be a nice setup.

At least get an MX-1 or a cheap Sima... in case things go wrong.

I agree with info, always have a mixer and a DVD or VHS on with loop so if you software bombs you can cut off while you restart... system sceens on projector screens = HUGE no no.
Oh and personally I would run two different softwares on the laptops..... or just have a few installed on each that way you can mix it up a bit as each software has its own strong and weak points :)

LOL nice Jilt.... finally great to see a developer NOT hyping their own software @ every possible opportunity (*cough* VJo *cough*)
So many great softwares out there and ones currently on the developement blocks....... definately check out Moonster, Flowmotion, Vjamm, Mieme, SVi... and a number of others currently out, many of them combined have great complimentary fuctions. Also lookout for heyVJ and AJ's AVS soon :)

If you would run a show that responses to the sound directly and realy psycedelic so you have to ceck out the Psycedelic Screensavers (3 psyco tools) with that you are able to feed live Audiosignals into your Computer and let em create many diffrent nice patterns and pictures .
The Clou definatly is that you can change nearly any parameter of the synths or sequences or sets :D
yes i know that sounds crazy but the results are realy abstrakt and they availible in many variants
it features also dualhead cards or 2 gfx cards and you neednt a fast computer for that so your oldes machine would work to use this as backgrounds for your projektions so you get away this problem for the time between "restarting" or changing tapes ...
but the machine have to run stable and make some logn-time tests before you go on road :D

Hahahah psychadelic Screensavers... I didn't know that was still around. I had a whole tape of that and the 3d Kinematic or what ever it was back in the old days, that I used to use as a backup tape when I first start and was doing psy-trance parties....

You'll rarely find the visualJockey programmers hyping their software on this site, since they don't frequent it.
Many-2 is part of the team, and is a bit "exhuberant" at times, so consider him the runaway propaganda engine; Renfield to their Nosferatu.
I'm a whole-hearted believer in using whatever tool you find necessary to accomplish the task. Any good artist will put time and effort into mastering a form as a means to finding their particular style. For a visual artist, part of this "woodshedding" is looking at software and trying out various instruments to find the one that works for them. Single purpose tools such as simple kaleidoscopes are the equivalent of always using the same distortion pedal on a guitar. Sounds great for a while, but gets old. The key is to find a program that allows you to customize to your own taste.

Psyscreensaver allows to customize nealy all effects and you can also put your own or the buil in compositions together in a sequenzer.
